You have to think and act young. I still do most things I did 20 years ago. I do voluntary work, gardening, reading, go on holidays and walk a lot.
walked 8 kms this morning and do so 3 times weekly. Started HRT two years ago with a few stops and starts. However have been taking hormones regularl for 3.5 months
and getting the usual effects. Family commitments prevented me transitioning earlier.  My age - 78

Ha, best be for me to avoid even to comment - and there I still do.

Being 65, I AM OLD AGED, in the book of most if not all. Even the dudes they pay pensions.

The crazy thing is how FAST it actually all happened. Crazy fast! CRAZY.

I hope to be like my grandpa ...

I one day hope to pass away like my grandfather, peacefully in my sleep.
Not screaming in terror, like the passengers in his car.

I met a woman who was 100 years old...and she outran me to the car.

I met a man who was 40ish...he was on oxygen, and could barely make it out his door. He had emphysema.

"Old age" is what you make of it, mostly. The rest is the result of taking care of your body when young (or not taking care of it), and genes.

In many ways, I already feel old, like in my 90's "old." Someone here mentioned having friends...that is the fountain of youth, if there is anything. Thanks to therapy and realizing being TG, friends are easier to come by (but still precious).

Old age is NOT what you make of it. Uncontrollable conditions like arthritis significantly impact your capabilities as you age, and are inconsistent from person to person. There is a mental component to it yes, but to say it's entirely in your control is outright wrong.

I have multiple sclerosis, a history of suicide attempts, drug abuse, a family history of strokes, etc, I don't really anticipate ever being old. It doesn't bother me too much, I don't fear death, I fear wasting life.

I can't wait to be a cranky old man. I'll shuffle around muttering at people, I'll always sit in the front of the bus, and I'll start conversations with young people with "Back in my day..."

You already are Bro

Well first I'll spend my children's inheritance, then I'll spend my grand kids inheritance. I think I might have to start a family soon. >:-)

I thought about it but it's really odd to comprehend what I would be like old but knowing my luck I'll be dead before then.  If I get a say in it then I will probably join some random militia and die in some epic battle.

Old-school-German, your old man Beth :-)

I like that, I better remember that part of my genetic make up. I do hear what you say and I hope to be as considerate to my 'surroundings' when it gets bad.

In my 'buckle up and move on' quick history I did not even mention 5 cancer ops in my face and over 20 radiation treatments.
Best forgotten if at all possible, um?

Things get better with age, including transgender.  You don't have to worry if your "face" is perfect. (I could never keep up when I was younger.)  Now I am just one of the girls.

Don't worry about becoming a senior citizen, just enjoy it!

Too many smokes, too many late nights, too much liquor, too much (bad) sex, too much food, too much sun, too much anger, too much fear, too much haste, too little exercise, too little love, too... much of the 'wrong' genes, hum.

Yes, you are jolly much right in what you say.

Trouble is, we all think (if we think at all) we'll get away with it  - and we don't.
Not in the long run, :-)

How's it going to be when you get old? When you get to an age where heels and hem lines are low, when a blue rinse is.... Well... I don't know what a blue rinse is... maybe it's some kind of last ditch punk revival thing going on, I don't think it's compulsory  :D When you're old and grey how do you see life? stale biscuits, wrinkly fruit bowls and whiskers (not for your cat)  ;) There probably won't be any glam in life anymore or much fun come to that. Would you be happy looking like barbara Cartland or will you settle gracefully into old age.... if that's possible.... At what age is it a good idea to stop taking hormones, is there a recommended rough guide for this? I have to admit I've always struggled with seeing myself as typically old in any scenario, TG or not but will a TG person have a harder time off it?
For the guys, will it be flat caps, a whippet and a raincoat and a plot in your local allotment with a pint of best down the pub at lunchtime  :)
There's an element of humour in this post but at the same time I'm a curious individual and I'm interested to hear others thoughts...
My own thoughts on old age are pretty negative on the whole (very preperation H  ;D) We're told "put into a pension for your retirement, THE GOLDEN YEARS" I've worked in a few old peoples homes and sheltered accommodations and I didn't see anything golden about it. Some places smelt a bit golden but that was all I noticed  :(
This is a very British take on it and it's possibly just mine, there are no doubt similar but totally different old people stereotypes in other countries, I seem to remember the more well off ones being called snow birds in Arizona. A migratory flock of grey haired old people who'd descend on Arizona in their RV's from the colder states to escape the winter weather and their aching joints and bones.

Snow birds are people who only come to stay in Arizona for the winters. XD

But yeah, don't stop taking hormones unless you want osteoporosis. I don't think being TG will make being old any worse. But at least I will be past the age of- well, excessive sexual interest so I won't have to explain my plumbing as much. XD

I hope I'll age well but I guess I don't lead the most healthy lifestyle either. I don't really know how it'll be, and if I did that would be even one less thing to look forward to. XD Err, you know what, I'm not going to try to fix that.

This gets funnier every time I read it, thanks for that  ;D I think laughter helps with keeping old age at bay and it'll definitely help with accommodating it when it arrives...

Did I see you on the beach last year sending the tide back on it's way  ;) Any chance you could make it windy for me if I give you a call  :D

:D apart from the smoking and the wrong genes you could almost say that the opposite of each point applies in exactly the same way.... Personally I always knew I wasn't going to get away with much of any of them but I partook anyway because I considered life as an angel as completely pointless  >:-) I know that by my choices I have no doubt knocked some time from my given but so far I've had a blast and wouldn't change a thing  ;)

I can't say I'm totally in agreement here, there are exceptions to every supposed rule and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to thwart that one.
Yipee I've figured out what that insert quote thing is for  ;D Durh!!!
see you on the beach....

Being that I turned 50 last year I can't really help but think about old age  :-\   But then again, if I make it another few years I'll be surprised, If I make it another 10 yrs I'll be freakin' amazed, another 20? Now that is a frightening thought

I think I actually love you, man :D comedy gold some parts of that were haha

I don't like to think about getting old as I want to grow old as a man but I'm still stuck in this female body and worry that somehow I'll stay in it and be looked at as a old woman :( I also worry about death as I don't want to be found somewhere and misidentified as a woman :( that death thing especially affects me right now for some reason :S

I did chuckle reading through this thread, cheers mate!

When I think about old age, I worry that I'll be abused or disrespected and won't be able to do anything about it. So I worry that I'll need hospitalization and will be put in with the women. Or that I'll need some kind of daily in-home care and will be treated as if I'm a woman.

I also worry that I'll get some form of dementia and revert back to thinking I'm living as a woman.

If I ever get bottom surgery, things might not be so bad. But bottom surgery won't help the last one. So I worry most about losing my mind.

I'm glad some of you folks can have a sense of humor about it. Maybe I can too, someday.

I looked this up because I remember reading the trans aging paper (listed as Kimmel book on the link) awhile back. It's interesting but discusses some graphically bad situations, so it's a little triggery. A lot of the other linked documents are useful too.http://forge-forward.org/aging/aging-publications/

FWIW, the US government offers this:http://lgbtagingcenter.org/
