I work in a call center (not as an agent (anymore), but as operations control and tech specialist), but I used to be on the phone. I haven't started T yet, and over the years I was trained in other customer service jobs that raising your voice a few octives makes you seem more pleasant. I would do it without thinking. Most of the time it would get me Ma'am'd *twitch*, but on a few occasions when they listened and asked my name, I got things like 'Oh, I have a brother named Sal!', and one time the following conversation happened.
"Is there anything else I can do for you Miss?"
"Well, there is, Sal, but you can't do it over the phone..."
"... ah..."
"Oh! I'm sorry, I always hit on the nice sounding boys when I've had wine with lunch!"
And recently, I got myself a wicked pair of aviators, and wearing them, after I got out of work me and my friend, were stopped by a man asking for change.
He looks at my friend, and then me, and then asks him
"Is this your brother?"
I shook my head, and my friend said that we just work together, but I was floating on air for a while after that... because that is just a random Joe off the streets making the assumption (though I imagine it was either the assumption that we were brothers, or that we were boyfriends... and I think the guy was more comfortable with the first idea).
