I didn't know any other transgender people when I came out in my day to day life, but since coming out, an FTM guy in my year at university who I was already friends with has also decided to transition. It's kind of strange for our department, as they've never had a transgender student before, and now suddenly they have two in one year.

But it was very heartwarming for me to think that I might have helped him in some small way to come to terms with who he is.
I've considered joining LGBT support groups before, but I'm in the very fortunate position of having all my friends and family recognise me for who I am, and have lots of lovely cisgender female friends who are quite happy to treat me as one of the girls and who are very sympathetic to trans-related problems. So I don't particularly need to seek out support outside of my existing circle of friends. I would definitely be interested to meet other trans people (particularly other girls), but it's something that I'm content to leave up to chance.
