jussoi4nao's new avatar is cute.

The voice in your new recording sounds high pitched to me. I don't think of it as breaking into a masculine voice. It sounds like someone who is trying to make their voice sound some way. That is my problem now.

When I listen to Andrea James doing the monotone exercise with enunciation (this is the voice I want to use), it is more than just the enunciation the pitch and a static tone. She is doing a complicated set of actions unconsciously.

Matching the actions isn't going to make me sound like that. There are subtle cues that are like mannerisms. That is why the people that have female sounding voices on here give advice that is not specific, I think. It's like teaching a bird to fly. Or how people develop accents when they visit places, unintentionally. There are key pointer and the rest is largely subconscious, probably.

The videos around candiFLA on youtube have people sounding feminine without doing the specific things that are suggested by the two voice coarses I know of. I think other aspects are as important or more important than trying to raise one's adam's apple, etc.
I have deduced that I am not wanted here.

Thank you! I guess you are right. ACid reflux really affects my voice, to the point the I have a lot of mucus in my throat and have to make an effort to sound normal, because it's really weird to hear my voice with all the alterations and hoarseness that come from it, and also maybe from  my self-consciousness of recording my voice. Maybe if someone recorded my voice wihout my knowledge it would come more naturally.

It's been a while since I've posted here...but here's my voice.

It sounds like I'm crying, but don't be alarmed, I'm not. It's just the difficulty I'm having with sustaining the voice. Once I get used to talking in that register I guess it'll smooth out.

I think you need to increase pitch. The difficulty you have in sustaining your voice does show a little bit. You'll get there with training :)

The only issue I feel I have currently is volume control, and I can hardly project my voice without the urge to yell in guy mode.  I'm starting to use my voice online thru voice chat programs, which is helping my dysphoria with my voice :)

edit: I sent a few people to this page to listen to my recording, and their computers/mobile devices couldn't play the file.

Here's one I made reading a few sentences off of one of my facebook chats using that online thing I see people using.

Sounds female to me Hideyoshi! Nice work!

I would say to grow from this point, you might want to look at pitch dynamics aka going up and down with your pitch while speaking. Right now it does sound female, but it is all very close to one tone.

Some girls talk like this though, so I don't see it being a problem for you... Your pitch and resonance are telling my ears that you are a female in these recordings.

Yay I'm so happy.

I'll work on fluctuating pitch more.

I've raised my pitch. Is it high enough? I can't really hear anything that specifically sounds masculine, but I'm still not sure if it's passable.

You sound a bit uncomfortable, but it's normal. I think your voice is sounding feminine now, I just think you need vary your intonation a little bit, because it is a bit monotone and you don't vary much, which makes it sound a bit robotic. But to be honest, I think you'll get there with practise :) Practise raising your voice as well, but go nicely on it, don't demand too much of yourself right now so there is no tendency to strain the voice too much.

You could try recording it again a little more relaxed, talk in the highest relaxed pitch you can and try to vary it to see if it's passable. :)

Hideyoshi you sound female to me!

Riversong.  The clip you posted on here sounds like your almost in falsetto and is not a comfortable speaking pitch.  I listened to your clip from tuesday, which sounds much better.  Just work on your infections and intonation and it will be perfect.

Every time around this year my voice likes me, and I like it back in return, hooray! I actually care about this, since I have to present on back to back days in 2 weeks for big presentations. My audience won't care if it does or not, but I do, since I'm A) Being filmed B) It's for the Philly Trans-Health Conference, so I want to look professional up there, you know? Especially considering the other folks I'm working with, too, everything has to be Grade A. If you're going to said conference and want to see me, or just more info, shoot me a message, and I'll tell you the sessions.

Hi!

It's my voice after 30 months of practice and using it in every day talking. I'm 40 years old and English is not my native or even spoken regularly language, so have mercy.

https://soundcloud.com/freja-draco/test-en

I think that it sound pretty good now, but still not excellent. I don't know, if it is possible to make it better and how to do it. Maybe it's just a matter of time, but how long? Next 30 months? It seems that with every next month the voice sounds better, but the progress is slower.

I think, the pitch isn't a problem. Resonance - maybe. Intonation - probably.

What do you think? What do you suggests?

Ya I know what you mean I have only been doing this a month so I can only get better. But I know what you mean if I focus on my talking I have issues but if I let it flow it sounds a lot better.

@riversong: In the first recording, you are still croaky and it sounds like there is too much "gravel."
In the next one (Tuesday, not posted), you sound muuuuch better.
The next one you posted (Friday) is way too forced.

@Hideyoshi: You sound a bit robotic, but I think you just need to work on it more to make your voice sound smoother :)

@katiew88: Okay, I asked my husband for some help analysing this:
You sound a bit nasally, but you will want to fluctuate your pitch so that it lilts UP as opposed to down. You shouldn't start your words higher, and you should try to better enunciate your vowel sounds.

@GorJess: The laugh at the end is great, you did slip into that lower pitch when you said "New York, New York" but otherwise you sounded fine. Your voice is a little deeper than the average woman's, but your vocal patterns are great :)

@Freja Draco: You sound great! My hubby said that you should also try starting words and sentences off low, then raising the pitch at the end (to kind of end in an exclamation!).

@krista2007: Try working your pitch higher! Also, I find that working with your guy voice while working on your female voice is detremental. I used to do it because I it helped to hear the difference, but it seems to do damage my progress more. In the latest one, it seems like you are blocking your nasal passage too much, but the pitch is a little better. It is also not as smooth-flowing as the ideal would be.

Now that I've offered up a bunch of my own opinions (and my husband's since I don't have headphones) here is my voice. I was trying to help others out at the time (a few days ago):
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0hx9ZZpSbEv

By the way, my husband picked it apart, saying that I need to work on not letting my words start high and drop low and whatnot.

Zeda,
I think you have a great feminine voice! Up until the cartoon voice (I sampled t0=0s and t1=24s) you were at a base frequency of 207-208Hz. Even though its up there, there's a nice amount of resonance? Raspiness? I don't know, but it makes your voice seem very authentic.

Thanks! I still need to practice, but I think I have a better understanding of what I need to do, now (as opposed to a year ago when I just couldn't figure it out).
