Yesterday I met my next door neighbor properly for the first time.
Her daughter is two and a half and get's along with my daughter (who is 18mos) very well. Previously I had only really met the grandfather who speaks no English, and so while we'd walk around our little culdesac, and he was very cheery, I've never really gotten to know him very well (or what he makes of me).
Anyway, now the weather is getting nice so we were all out in the front yard and my daughter saw the neighbors girl and wanted to go play, so we headed over.
I was actually a little nervous because now I was going to have to talk to my neighbor who until now has never heard me speak and hasn't been closer than waving distance to me.
I know, we're all so antisocial here in Seattle.
As it happened I was invited in and got to have a mom to mom while the girls played with each other, and I didn't once feel like my neighbor was trying to get a read on me or was in anyway disapproving of the lesbian couple next door.
I get kinda nervous anytime I'm dealing with other parents who don't know I'm trans as you simply never know when someone might decide that's enough reason to give CPS a call.
Knowing that my neighbor is happy with our daughters playing together, and just being treated like I'm a normal human being was a BIG relief.
