Wild Flower

Part of your World.. by Ariel

Deeper and Deeper by Madonna (its about a gay boy... lyrically. Videowise she looks transvestite)

What it feels like for a girl by Madonna

I think were alone now by Tiffany ((lol.... okay id imagine this song would have more meaning by a trans girl)) ***they dont understand so were running as fast as we can... holding onto one another hand... trying to get away into the night... and then you say... I think were alone now...

"Anyone who believes what a cat tells him deserves all he gets."

It's only one line in the song "got your mother in a whirl, she's not sure if you are a boy or a girl", but with David Bowie singing it, there can be all sorts of implications. I also can relate to the rebel image, so the song has personal significance. I am sort of this girl at 60.

I am honestly shocked that this wasn't mentioned, but my all time favorite has to be Boy George's She Was Never He

Tasha was a stunning vision, painted eyes with such precision
Longer legs than any girl I know
Swishing down the old kent road, with her hips on overload
Making sure the lonliness don't show

She was never he for as long as I remember
She was never of her gender categorically
She was never he though the boys at school were cruel
You would have to be a fool not to see

That she was never...

Jodie she was quelle surprise, to fool the boys was such a breeze
But deep inside her heart the terror flowed
What if he should realise, break her heart or black her eyes
These things are so important for a girl to know

She was never he for as long as I remember
She was never of her gender categorically
She was never he though though this world could be so cruel
You would have to be a fool not to see

And the government says you no longer exist
It's a kick in the eye, it's the final twist
Of the surgeons knife
Welcome to my glamorous life

Oh the big dark man
Will he turn a blind eye
Love me for who I am
Turn me out and make me cry

She was never he for as long as I remember
She was never of her gender categorically
She was never he though this world could be so cruel
You would have to be a fool not to see

She was never he for as long as I remember
She was never of her gender categorically
She was never he though this world could be so cruel
You would have to be a fool not to see
That she was never...

Man, there are so many. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • "My Body Is a Cage" - Arcade Fire
  • "Let Me Be Myself" - 3 Doors Down
  • "Quasimodo" - Lifehouse
  • "Been a Son" - Nirvana

When you dream you only dream your Annabel.
All the secrets there inside you Annabel.

Down beneath an emerald sky sing Annabel.
Nothing that they did will stop you Annabel.

Land of the lines, tangled there in porcelain.
Under the stars you'll begin.

When you dream you only dream your Annabel.
Sleep reminds you takes you there, oh Annabel.

Gentle whisper, endless winters, Annabel.
Why've they could have let you be both Annabel.

Land of the lines, of the years below still lies.
You are the truth they denied.
Run like the sea, tangled there in porcelain.
Under the stars you begin.

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh ah
(Only a boy under that)

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh ah
(Only a boy da da da)

Wild Flower

Once in a while I act like a child
To feel like a kid again
It gets like a prison
In the body I'm living in

Because everyone's watching
Quick to start talking
I'm losing my innocence
Wish I were a little girl
Without the weight of the world
It would be nice to start over again
Before we were men

I'd give, I'd bend
Let's play pretend

----
I interpret this as a transwoman who wished she could start life over, at least pretend "she's" still innocent/female/before the reality took away his innocence. Playing pretend is her only option for her sanity *this would have even more meaning if the video was set in like the 1890s-1910s, with a more "old-sound" to it like a Victorian-Edwardian man who pretends in his room with a beautiful dress and a wig, but she would give everything she has "I'd give, I'd bend" to be who she truly is.... Before we were men, meant that she knows other transwomen who wish they could transition. And then she would go off to war/work or something playing some masculine role.

I doubt the original singer thought of the song in that light.
"Anyone who believes what a cat tells him deserves all he gets."

This one got me through a rough patch or two, even though I'm not so much an enby..

Eliot Sumner is out as non-binary/genderless. They present very androgynously. Contemplate the issues with being, presenting, and transitioning nonbinary and listen to the lyrics.

(Verse 1)
Find me a definition
I'm confident what I'm not
I have foreign specifications
I have foreign specifications
I want a classification
Provide me with a tag
If that's the key to survival here
Does it help you understand
(Chorus)
I'm not sure about the species
I'm not sure about the gender
I'm not sure about the breed
I'm not sure about the species
(Verse 2)
Come inside the exhibition
Come and see what it's all about
We have foreign modifications
We have foreign modifications
They're not sure if this is legal
They're not sure if this was right
They're not sure about the species
They're not sure about the species
(Chorus)
Before I fall to pieces
Tell me what's your species
(x4)
(Verse 3)
Find me a definition
Or render me unknown
I have modern specifications
I have modern specifications
They're not sure about the species
They're not sure about the gender
They're not sure about the breed
They're not sure about the species

SPANISH MOSS by AGAINST ME!
(Laura Jane Grace wrote this before coming out. The video for the song shows a cemetery with trees covered in Spanish moss).

You just need to find some place to get away.
You can forget your name.
And there's no need to apologize.

It could be a good life.
It could be such a very good life.
We could find a place for just me and you.
Need some place to stay safe, need some place to stay safe and warm.
Why don't we deserve the same?

You just need to find some place to get away.
You can forget your name.
And there's no need to apologize.

Look into the Spanish moss.
Let your mind conjure up old ghosts.
Ride your bike through lost Florida streets.
Everything we've said and done can be so easily forgotten.
You can always change who you are.

You just need to find some place to get away.
You can forget your name.
And there's no need to apologize.
I caught a glimpse of this life, it could be such a very good life.
We could find a place for just me and you.
But it's not yours to keep.
Yeah, the truth will tear your heart out.
In a world run by gangsters, you're stuck standing in a bread line.

You just need to find some place to get away.
You can forget your name.
And there's no need to apologize.

I always thought of Rebel Rebel as a great trans song.

I also love As Girls Go by Suzanne Vega

And one that probably isn't meant to be a trans song but seemed that way for me is
Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy by Jack White

Roll

Wow, old thread. For kicks, I'll add that I was listening to one of the big songs from Moana, How Far I'll Go, and I just couldn't help but read into it. Sort of applicable to many situations that deal with not fitting in, but still.

"The voice inside sings a different song,
what is wrong with me?"
