Summer job or transition?

Soooo... I graduated from HS like 3 days ago... and my parents want me to look for a summer job.  This is unfortunate because I want to stay on the down low or not make new bridges until after I transitioned so they won't get burned later.  Basically,  I am trying to move forward with the transition which I guess has not started in earnest yet but I just don't want to have anymore obligations until I can be "myself..."

So is it a good idea to look for a job or just wait until a more opportune time. 

Don't you love when parents throw fastballs and catch you off guard when your in the middle of something big?

Hopefully it will work out but its not cool for me to taste freedom and have to jump back in... especially when I like to use freedom to meditate on my transition or wear bras all day!  


I am sure it will work out in the end but I guess I just want to vent a little bit now and not let it build up later!

Well, you could always just do something for just the summer in a place you know you won't go back to?  Where do you live?  I know some places have like a YMCA camp or something you can work at.

This.  Honestly, it's best to have some cash to transition with.  Once you start you may be happy that you picked up that job.  Transitioning is not cheap.  Even with insurance, my therapy is costing me a pretty penny which I don't really have.

Whether or not you begin your transition journey this summer is up to you. And because it is your life only you an make the decision. Do what makes you happy.

Alas it is quite common to have bridges burn't as you go through transition.

Having said that bare in mind that without money paying for your hormones, removing facial hair, the doctor and therapist and paying for gender surgery is not easy.

You can so both. Just don't tell anyone at your job and use your cash for transition purposes. And if they say something just be like no ! I have no idea what your talking about. Remember you need a job so you will have money to transition

I live in Richmond Virginia. 

And I might get a job and just not tell anyone I guess.  But I would be more happy with trying to program an iPhone app or something from home.

By the way, I have a total "crush" on Anna Kendrick for her role as Beca in Pitch Perfect.  "Crush" meaning I SO WISH I WAS HER (the character  )

Anyway... I am going to go further down the rabbit hole and see what I can dig up

If you can find a company to work for that has good employee benefits, you can begin your transition while on the job. Health insurance is your friend. See if you can get a job that would lower the cost of HRT and doctor's visits. And it takes months for hrt to have noticeable effects, nobody will notice unless you make it obvious to them. So nobody really has to know...

I understand the want to jump right into presenting but you should want to set yourself up. It's harder to keep a job or get another one if you have not legally changed your name yet and can pass. Also education is a big factor as well. That's why I say keep it secret on the job. At college be yourself. There it's ok.  Just don't out yourself right now and set yourself up for failure

Yeah, transitioning takes time, so you can hide it from people in the beginning.  But you will need an income so try to find something.  I know how you feel about just wanting to move quickly.  I'm going crazy not being able to live as a girl and losing it that I don't pass yet.  But remember that it takes time and it's okay that it does.  It's frustrating, but you will get there eventually.  In the meantime work on taking those steps that will allow you to progressively get to where you want to be.
