Germany, in the twenties, had some real serious problems getting their trains to run on time. Hitler solved that mess. And the populace gave him great credit for it. It gained him a good deal of popularity. Yes, they gave him credit where credit was due. But what did THAT gain them?
If a man is called of God, then how can that man have such a vile contempt for [some] of God's children, like US? Yes, we should take a look at his actions, and exactly the impact they have had on our country.
I don't know how much argument I'll get from what I am about to say, but the moral majority has brought a horrible movement to this country and a tremendous loss in human life as a result. We are now one of the least tolerant first world countries. We have a very low literacy rate. And our government, fully supported and now run by the "moral majority", sponsors corporate greed on unprecedented scale. Not since the times of the robber barons have we cared so little for our people. We deny them healthcare, take their jobs, and leave masses in unrequieted poverty. And now, our Christian soldiers are marching onward in the middle east while the moral majority attempts to hijack our constitution.
I really don't believe that this is what Christ taught or wanted. To be fair, Falwell is not the principal cause of our woes. There are many who share the glory with him. I believe that he followed his beliefs and he tried very hard to do what he thought was just. He worked on his last day in his cause for what he believed was righteousness. I believe that he spent the money given in donations to the worthy causes he believed in rather than stashing it in his own pocket.
So, to the man and his family, I share my condolonces. But I can not shed a tear for this man. For he was just a man who led us down the proverbial primrose path. Faith based beliefs can not be the measure by which we govern. That ultimately brings out the very worst in any government. I wish that he had stayed clear of politics. For then, I would likely have had some admiration for his deeds.
So... does this mean that I have a cold, black heart?
