I'm just a bit curious what women usually carry in their purse. Right now, I'm just carrying the bare bones contents (wallet, keys, phone). I've thought a bit about other contents like makeup, gum and possibly feminine hygiene (just in case I get asked when using the restroom).

=celestica=

women carry what women carry.
it not anything special.

i know girls who love those huge apartment sized bags they they put everything in.
i personally am very feminine but i wouldn't ever wear a purse. i hate holding things and having to drag something along with me everywhere.
i'm just a "force everything into your pockets" kind of gal. :P

What you have, sunglasses, makeup, writing utensils, snack, water, etc

It means 'you're not important enough for me to acknowledge your struggle.'"

I'm not feminine, but I love my messenger bag. It is green and canvas and beautiful. It goes with me everywhere forever. Current contents: wallet, iPhone, headphones, keys, transit pass, lip balm x2, hand salve, throat lozenges (pomegranate and mint), tissues, security pass, pens (3), medications (oxycodone and sumatriptan), flask of tea, a couple pantyliners, USB flash drive, and a kiwi.

I have a lot of stuff in my purse with the exception of makeup, I don't carry that with me, putting it on once a day is good enough, don't need to touch it up.  Let's see, there are bandaids, safety pins, ink pens, nail file, hand sanitizer, hand cream, aspirin, tape measure, little adjustable wrench, little screwdriver set, checkbook, stuffed bear, cough drops, tic tacs(two flavors), gum, cold medicine, extra car keys, carry letter which I've never had to use for the last 7 years, wallet, assorted receipts, book of matches, a rubber band, floss thingies, loose notes with people's numbers on them, paper towels, two pairs of reading glasses, a penny with a little frog sticker on it, a little bottle of motrin, an empty altoid tin, my droid, cigarettes, lighter and probably some other stuff I just can't recall right now.

Let's see...in my "purse purse" I have some fruity, girly lotion, blistex, cell phone, a wallet wallet, a checkbook wallet,  some pens, and medicine; the "purse purse" then goes into a bigger purse, which has my DLSR, my iPOD, a pochette with more blistex, more lotion, loose dollar bills, and a backup pair of 'barely there' underwear (I hate trying on tight clothes with regular underwear, I just keep a spare pair in case I randomly go shopping, plus they don't really take up any room).

I guess I really like compartmentalizing things, because >95% of the time, I carry the big purse with the smaller ones in it (unless I'm going out-out)...and these are separate from my work bag, with my work stuff (notebooks, dossiers, etc), or my "I'm going to the coffee house" bag with my coffee house stuff (reusable cup, netbook, etc), or my "real" camera bag, etc.  Maybe more than compartmentalizing things, I just really like bags...

Jamie,

The question asked was, "What's in your purse."

Not what's in the truck you carry around with you. Do you have problems finding a parking space for your purse truck?

At least one thing, should you ever have to move home, most of your packing is already done.  ;D

And as you've said, this list is not exhaustive.

Good to see you carrying the essentials. BTW, where do you live? Mexico City! Ah that explains it.

Uuuuhm. This is what's in mine.

- Wallet
- "Media Wallet" (a little pouch with headphones, a microSD-SD adapter and my USB key oo')
- Pen
- Little notebook (need a new one; last one died to an attack from the hand sanitiser)
- Hand sanitiser, for when I'm eating out and too lazy or scared of the gender-separated bathrooms to go wash my hands
- Hand cream
- Lip balm
- Keys
- Bus pass
- Umbrella (except in the winter)
- Tissues
- Bandages
- Hair brush
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Chewing gum
- The pills I always take in the afternoon
- Spare pills in case I forget them in the morning, + Advils
- Hair pins
- Hair elastics
- Hair clips
- Mirror
- Hand moisturiser
- Nail file

I would put my phone in it, but neither its sound nor its vibration are strong enough to be heard from the outside. Sometimes I don't feel/hear it in my pocket. ._.

Well I'm part time, so my purse hasn't had time to get really cluttered. I actually have a "purse checklist" to make sure I haven't taken stuff out of it that I need. Here's what I got:

Wallet
Keys
Phone
Compact mirror
Mini-hairbrush
8-oz refillable water bottle
One day's dose of medication
Reading glasses
Book
Writing pad
Pen
Carry letter signed by my therapist stating I'm transgender

And most important:

One KitKat bar because you never know when you're really gonna' want one!!!
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?
