Thanks, y'all. Although I still have my doubts at times.

Do I look remotely female?

Lighting isn't the best and my makeup is mostly faded since early this morning.

And I'm old.

But be honest.

If there were no bigamy laws, I would be down on one knee as we speak.

Heavens Yes.  You look great.  If only I could look half that good.

Thanks for the hints, Akira21. I personally would love to have a cute fringe or bangs, but I need to keep something that works in boymode as well. Maybe a wig is worth a thought... although they're pretty expensive.

jrd, I think you look great, very feminine. I know several women who look just like you and I swear I wouldn't have known had I seen you in the street!

A short "unisex" hairstyle with bangs is possible. For example, look at Zac Efron's style here:

That's not far from some women's styles, like the ones that you can see on this page: http://www.short-haircut.com/2013/01

As for wigs, you can get a decent one for under $100. I would think that something that you'd want to wear regularly would be worth the investment, no? The more expensive ones are either name brands and/or offer fancier styles and better materials, but not necessarily superior realism. You can import cheap ones on eBay for $10-20 shipped, and even they would be passable, as long as you keep in mind that "passing" does not mean "perfection." (Lots of us passable girls might not stand up to a scrutinizing look, but that's not the point.)

A typical women's haircut at a salon is around $50. Even if you just get a cheap $15 cut from a barber every two months, that adds up to $90 a year. So a wig wouldn't really be that much more expensive. There are some advantages, like not having to go to a salon/barber for maintenance on the style. That also means that you never have to worry about a hairdresser ruining your nice hair with a bad cut.

As a side note, my hairstyle for the past seven months has been a bob. Though it's a purely female style, I wouldn't say that I'm en femme full-time. So I present as androgynous on an everyday basis, and I'm OK with that. (Whereas before my transition, I was paranoid about being seen as anything but male.) Maybe you need to have a clear "boy mode," or maybe you live in a place where androgyny is unacceptable, but I'm just raising the possibility.

Thank you so much for the info Silvermist, it's all helpful :)

Well, I'm not out yet, but I've always been a little dainty. I guess I'm scared of presenting female outside of what I do at home, until I transition and it's all my decision - part of the reason I was so terrified of posting a pic with my face on it.

You raise really good points about the cost of a wig, and how the little things add up. I've always loved having long hair, but it gets harder and harder to keep either girly or boyish until it reaches the ponytail stage. A wig would give me a clear definition between girl or boy, as around my family and within my job it's essential (to me only, I suppose) that I identify as male until I'm sure this is the choice I want. I'm almost certain I will, but the low self-esteem means I'm never really sure of what I want half the time. A good wig would allow me to go back to a boyish haircut, with an ability to become much more feminine than I feel now.

All food for thought, and thank you for taking the time to answer my questions :) It's just up to me to see how I advance.

P.S. I'd love a bob, and you have just put that idea in my head now!

P.P.S. Stacey Fisher - I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to post pics too, I'd recommend using IMGUR: Upload your photo, then use the link it gives you for BBS bulletin board - copy and paste that into your post and click preview and the picture should appear. I'm rubbish at BBS stuff and I managed it!

Oh, and one last question from me - is there any way to change my username? I chose this one when I was curious, to ask and get help at the early stages, and I'd really like to change it to my chosen name?

There certainly are things you can do to further feminize your appearance.  But FFS should wait until you have been on hormones for a while.

Give it some time, girl!  You have a great foundation from what I can tell, so I think you'll pass wonderfully after a bit longer on the girl juice.

This is almost certainly true, but its other stuff too. At each stage I though there was nothing more that I could do... That's it... out of money and possibilities in terms of passing. I was wrong. It just creeps on you, despite how much you might already know, do, have, whatever.

Stacey, I admire you so much for being full-time already! You go girl! I'm at 19 months, and I'm still not there yet! By the way, your hair looks AMAZING!  :)
Um, girl juice?! Sounds naughty!  :P

Gazed for one whole minute and all I saw was a woman. :) I think you haircut frames your face very well.

Have you considered contact lenses? Your eyes might pop a bit more (judging from the refraction on the lens).
Hi, I'm Sophie. Nice to meet you. :)

Well, look at the avatar....

Not happy with my nose.  Not happy with the darkness around my eyes and I used a LOT of lighter make-up to get even that shade.  Need to loose a little more weight.  However, I have pictures from a couple years ago and when someone starts at a negative 8, simply getting to a positive 2 is a big improvement.

Please be honest, both the good and the bad.  I'll do my best to remember I asked for that.
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

Well this is a pic I took on the El right before I put on my makeup. I think I kinda look female but not sure. I need a nose job. Ugh.

Hi Jennifer,

To be completely honest, you look like you are struggling with a fairly masculine bone structure.  You have a pretty square jaw line and a fairly pronounced brow ridge.  I think quite a bit of that can be overcome with makeup, specifically some contouring to bring out your cheekbones with bronzer (which can also be used to narrow your nose).  Are you using eye-cream (specifically retinol-based), that will help with the dark under-eye circles (also concealer).  A lip-plumper might also draw attention away from your jaw-line.
