I guess I'm boring; all I intend to do about my name is drop two pesky letters off the end so that it's gender-neutral.  I did opt to choose a whole new middle name, though, as opposed to using the opposite-sex variant of what I had.  I wanted to use a name that had significant meaning to me.  As much as I love the thought of choosing a whole new first name, I've been going by a shortened version of my birth name for so long now it'd feel unnatural for me to try something else.  ...Plus I like the fact that my first and last name start with the same letter and there are very few first names starting with the letter K that I like and actually feel would suit me.  XP

But some other names I've always really liked would be:

...I could go on, but I doubt most (if any) of those would be considered popular or largely desirable.  :x  I just couldn't resist making a list of my own for the fun of it!

I'll admit I kind of like Alastair and Orion. I considered taking Sirius as my middle name, since I love astronomy and he's my favorite character from Harry Potter. If you want something different you should definitely consider star names.

What would your parents have named you? Googling the top 100 names in the year or decade you were born helps.  What is your ethnicity/heritage? Are your parents/siblings names in keeping with their ethnicity?  Choosing a name, in addition to your liking it, should be authentic.  ie would a white, Anglo-Saxon, protestant boy from the northeast have an Indian name?  Would a child of the 80s have a name that is trendy in babies today?

The name has to be a good fit.  Just MHO.
