Hey guys, so I'm having top surgery next month with Dr. Garramone -- crazy excited, can't believe it's so soon  ;D

Anyway, question: how long was it before you were able to get back into sports/outdoor recreation? I'm a pretty avid tennis player and am wondering what to expect in terms of time away. My T doc had said probably 6 weeks but was just wondering what you guys have experienced.

Depends what type of op your having I suppose. I had double incision in January, I was pretty agile after a month but I wouldn't have been comfortable playing tennis till about 3 months to be honest. Even now it pulls quite a bit when I stretch and sometimes I get some pain, especially if it's a sudden movement.

I'm having top surgery with Garramone next month too, May 17th. I obviously don't have any answers but good luck.

Good luck. I had peri so my results might differ but I know I had to wait like a month for cardio and lower body workouts and like 2 months to resume all weight lifting (and i had to ease into it)

Looks like a lot of us are seeing garramone in may, I'm May 14th!

For tennis, it might be a couple months. Even after I felt OK to resume all my regular daily activities, it still bothered me to shoot hoops and make the quick athletic movements involved with playing sports. I imagine tennis would be even more painful with all the lunging and reaching you do.

I had a bilateral subcutaneous mastectomy and the process was the same as stated by others. It was 3 months before any weightlifting could happen, and a very slow ease into upper body work outs. i was told that I could do things like bush walking and running after 2 months, but to be careful of stretching.

Good luck (to everyone, apparently May is the month for surgery)

Thanks for the responses guys... yeah, I had figured it would be closer to 2-3 months. Being able to play an actual match will probably be longer with the serving motion. Ugh that sounds like an eternity. I guess I'll have to get in as much as I can before May lol.

Elijah -- my surgery is also 5/14! Maybe we will cross paths down there :)

Seems most guys (not just in this thread but from everything I've seen) report getting back into exercising or sports within 2-3 months. My surgeon gave me that same time frame. But I continued to feel like I was stretching too far even just doing a push up or shooting a basketball until 6 months post op. I didn't start doing lifts like overhead press that require you to really extend your arms up until about 1 year post op. Maybe I'm a slow healer or I was just extra cautious but now I have no stretching of my scars so it was worth it for me. Just listen to what your body is telling you and best of luck  :)

Getting mine done next month as well, so no answers here either. You're not alone in worrying about this though, I have a horse who I ride 3-5 times a week... I'm worried I won't be able to ride for at least a month... we'll see how it goes. I can muscle through the pain, I just don't want to ruin the surgery you know? Once stitches are out, scabs are healed and anything that could lead to 'something bad happening' is gone I intend to just suck it up and work through the pain. But I also have a tremendously high pain tolerance. We'll see how it goes... Good luck to you on your surgery.
