Good question....
I thougjt the same question...

What flavor are they covering up?

They are covering the taste of the spiro and the filler - which I've been lead to believe is nasty..

Mine doesn't taste of spearmint, it tastes of nasty.

My first brand of Spiro was mint, very much so, but the past several months it has no flavor, and is a light tan color, not white.
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

This sounds like mine, too.  I was disappointed when I didn't taste mint from it earlier this morning.

My Spiro tastes like Thank Goodness I Swallowed That Before I Had A Chance To Taste It.

One time I didn't. That was a bad day.
Don't lose who you are along the path to who you want to be.

They add flavorings or sweeteners to certain drugs to disguise the bitter taste of these medications.  One reason to keep the little kids away from thes meds.  For Spiro, the sensation of mint is mainly for the smell.  Smell does effect taste.  The bitterness of the Spiro will override the smell of the mint if you don't get it down quick enough.

I found it best to take it with some sort of flavored drink as even swallowing quickly with water will often leave a bad taste at the back of my mouth.  Its been that nasty for the nine years I've been taking it.

Many years ago, before my first heart surgery, I was on Aldactone (brand name for one form of Spironolactone).  I do not remember any taste at all (bitter or minty).  But I was pretty good at swallowing pills by the handful.

For someone like myself who has trouble swallowing pills I'm sure glad that spiro tastes like mint. I would not be able to get it down otherwise. As it is I have to crush it and take it mixed in with something, mainly chocolate ice cream. Mint and chocolate go so well together :)

Have you tried a pill straw for the ones you can't crush up?
