Heading to Florida on the 12th, surgery on the 14th!

I already have:

enemas
stool softeners
baby wipes
bendy straws
comfortable shorts
books/DVDs

any other ideas of things I may need? or just advice on things to expect?

also, anyone here used compression socks? the website suggests you get them, but it also says its best to use them if you will be traveling for more then 4 hours, and I will not be traveling that long.  Most of the socks are 20 bucks, and I don't want to waste the money if I don't need it.

You're going to think I'm strange but if you're required to do the whole "crap yourself silly" thing before surgery take your favorite brand of toilet paper with you (or find a store and buy some while you're there). Generally hotels and hospitals skimp on the booty wipe by getting the cheapest stuff possible. Once you have crapped every half hour for hours your butthole tends to get raw. Trust me, you'll be glad you had the good stuff.

One other thing I would suggest is getting some Ensure or Boost nutritional drinks. After surgery you might not feel up to eating properly or the pain meds might make you nauseated. Those drinks offer a good "pick me up" when you're feeling puny.

As far as the compression stockings you won't need them if you are able to get up and walk every hour or two for about 10 minutes. That's what they make me do after surgeries. If you're driving that will be easy to do (just stop and walk around a store every so often). I reeeeaaaalllly don't think you need them and I really don't think top surgery will be that bad seeing that there are a lot of videos/pics of guys who are walking the beach there the next day or so after surgery. Then again doctor's orders ARE doctor's orders. When it's my turn I'll probably buy a pair and keep the receipt in case I don't use them.

Best of luck and hope you have a great trip.

thanks! and yep, I have that covered.  I bought "butt wipes" but just didn't put it on my list.

Great advice so far here, just a few other things that come to mind:

neck pillow, makes sleeping on your back easier
button down shirts
bathrobe (a friend of mine suggested this, said it was nice to be able to put it on quickly and not have to get dressed all the time)

I mentioned it in another thread, not sure if you saw it -- but I'm also having top surgery with Garramone on the 14th :) crazy how soon it is eh? I still can't wrap my head around it haha.

button down shirts

Beat me to it. These are a MUST.

Charge up your cell phone.

Simon's a real pro...I never would have thought of bringing my own toilet paper.

really? thats kinda crazy actually. You excited or nervous?  People keep asking if I am scared but I'm just excited, only thing I am scared of is saying something inappropriate after waking up haha.

I was worried that I'd say something like that after getting juiced up but before going under. I still wonder about this from time to time. I guess it's disturbing because I have other gaps in my memory, and they drive me crazy, too.

Next time, I'll make secret recordings. ;D

A cat? Seriously. I am worried about mine when I have top surgery. The cat is 17 lbs. You really don't want 17 pounds to land on you.

My ex and I had one cat whose favorite place to roost was someone's chest, while the person was sleeping.

We kept a really close eye on him for a few weeks...

17 pounds of cute!

But seriously, ouch.

It's the other one, but he's cute too. He is on my stomach right now and it's hard to breathe. LOL. Possibly part Maine Coon cat or something.
