He hopes the denomination will adopt a stance against ->-bleeped-<-, while urging therapy and spiritual counseling for those struggling with their sexual identity.

Patricia Miller of The Confessing Movement within the UMC said that would just be the beginning.

I love this:

Quote"It is very troubling for the church to give a blessing to what is essentially a mutilation of the body, which is what a sex-change operation is," he said, "rather than to encourage and affirm sexual identity as God gave it."

Ah... duh.... God gave us the identities we have with non matching bodies!  We are changing the body, not the identitiy!

We have much work to do.

Odd, I really do not understand why people think it is a question of sexual identity. Heck, there is nothing about sexual identity to be bothered about. I'm bi, I'm happy. Deal. See, simply and easy, no problems! ... This whole mess is about gender... what is between the ears. ... Is that such a foreign concept that they simply can't grasp it without it being beat into their skulls with the proverbial two by four?

Naw, I bet it would only take a bit of chatting with them really, presuming they wanted to listen anyway.

It's a pity Jesus could not have treated the odd Transsexual amongst his healing.

I tried my hardest, damn best to convince a Christian therapist this was not about sex. I was seeing him for my friends who go to this church and this church has a counseling center. So I went, we talked on about 10 different occasions, and ... Well my friends have turned against me because god has no place for people like me. This therapist told me my problems were sexual. I guess I'm a pervert or sick mentally. Sure feels good to be on estrogen though so I guess I will keep giving myself shots and go to hell. In this church sex/identity/gender are all god given and should not be changed???

He said I did not fit any patterns, but certainly I had sexual deviance issues and a large sexual drive since I was 6???

I should pray harder and that will fix me

Lori,

Been there done that.  My first pshyc sessions were with "professionals" who were "outstanding members" of the Mormon church.  It was an exercise in futility.  One drugged me up and the other kept insisting that my condition was a sexual fettish.  Turns out, he was the one with a fettish as he abused me.

What if he did? But they just referred to the person as their real gender? We'll never know. For instance, maybe Lazarus was an FTM but whoever relayed the story just didn't feel the need to say that because they just accepted him for who he was?
   Just wondering out loud here.

   Kimberly?
I'd like to sign out one of those two by fours, please. I'll only need it for hundreds of years, then I'll return it.
