Hello. This is my first post on this forum. I am 18 & completely lost and in need of guidance. I thought i'd try out here to see if i could receive any help.

I just went through my GRS surgery almost 2 months ago. It has been an emotional roller coaster since then. I am now moving towards getting my birth certificate changed by editing the 'M' marker to an 'F'. Also i am wanting to change my middle name. My 1st name is thankfully something I've grown to love so i will not be needing to change it. It will only be my middle name & the gender mark. My question is how i go about it? I live in the state of Florida & researched online how to but i just cant understand any of it. My mom has been helping me through everything and she cant understand it either. Has anyone here been through this process before and can give me a starting line? It's all so confusing & i cant get the hang of it no matter how many times i read through the process. As of now i only have a simple FL state ID that confirms i am an adult FL citizen. That unfortunately has my middle name printed on it. Although it DOES have an 'F' for female so i'm happy about that. I have not gone forward in going for my drivers licence or a passport yet & am waiting until i get my birth certificate & middle name changed to make those processes easier.

Any help is welcome and i would be extremely grateful.

Not sure. In the UK you have to wait two years after transition before you can apply to change your sex on your birth certificate.

Name change is easy and can be done by anyone at anytime, even if the person is NOT changing gender. You do this via deed poll.

I'm sorry I couldn't help since I was born outside US. But here's a link that might help.

I know it looks like a complicate process. Maybe other ladies will chime in later with their expertise. Good luck.

The big question to have your birth certificate gender marker changed is... Were you born in Florida? If no... what state?

Hi, Dee.  Thank you for posting your question.

You may want to look over some of the older topics that are archived, or active, on the "Legal Matters" board.

https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,328.0.html

I will also do some research to find informative topics.

From our wiki:

Florida

Florida will issue an amended certificate with no reference to the old information. Changing it requires:

A completed "Application for Amended Birth Certificate"
A notarized "Affidavit of Amendment to Certificate of Live Birth"
A certified copy of a court order of name change
A sworn affidavit from the physician who performed GRS containing his/her medical license number as well as stating that you have completed sex reassignment in accordance with appropriate medical procedures and that you are now considered to be a member of the reassigned gender. It also requires a small fee.
