CallMeJess

This summer I'm working for an academic summer camp getting high school aged students ready for college and teaching them a variety of  Engineering concepts. It pretty much works that there will be 4 of these sessions and the job lasts form mid June until early August. Most of my coworkers are the other councilors which are other college aged students.

The point of this post that as an academic summer camp there are huge obvious gender lines (male councilors can't room check female students alone and vice versa is an example) to try and make sure there isn't any budding romance when you bring 200+ high school students together (it's for Engineering and Technology so the gender ratio is predictably terrible (there is only about 20 girls) but still, rules and procedures). And shortly after the first session started the obvious reminders of gender really started to bother me, as I am MTF but present as male still pretty much 95% of the time.

Long story short, I came out to one of the other councilors when these feelings started to hit me hard and she was really great to listening to me rant and giving me support. I'm still deciding if I want to come out to more people here since the truth is after August 8th, I'm probably never going to see any of my coworkers ever again (I go to a different University than all of them), but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Still it feels really good as I slowly open up to more and more people  :)
