One of the things that held me back from being me was fear.

I think that is so common; people who know us well, how will the react? Of course they don't know us well, they know our shadow person.

Two things today:

One of my ex-students (female) was talking to another colleague(male) who wasn't aware of my changed life. The colleague asked her if she knew me (male name) and that I was a really nice guy. She replied, Oh I know Cindy very well and she is a really nice girl. He replies, I think we are talking about two different people; 'No same person, she has had a sex change and she is a very nice woman.' My ex-student phoned me and told me laughing and giggling about the reaction she had got, as was I. A little later the guy called and congratulated me.

The second was a guy from my department, who had retired, came in for a medical appointment and decided to drop in to see me, unaware of my changes. he walked in and asked if male name was around. I looked up and said, no he died and I replaced him. He looked shocked and then I said, I'm the improved version of him and he recognised me. I thought he was going to have a heart attack, then he gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. We talked for ages and he held my hand throughout.

Our fears, or at least mine, have been so unfounded.
