Anyway, enough about me. BMI is okay as a guideline, but it will vary between people. You may be underweight by BMI standards but still perfectly healthy. If you're worried about it, you might want to talk to a doctor and ask their opinion, as they will surely be able to give you a better idea if you need to weigh more or if you are okay where you are.
Naa, I have health problems but I dont think it related to my weight. just find it wired and wonder if the point that theres a diffrence in the "male/female when you do health test has anything to say, so you atomatically become very skinny or overweight? or get to much or little of something??

it's not a bothering beside my teacher who keep telling me im too skinny and I should eat more and so. thats pretty annoying (I mean, if I where overweight I dont think she would say I should lose weight and eat less.)

Kinda suprised at responses here. Here's the medical field perspective.

BMI isn't a diagnosis. It's an indicator of potential problems only.  So the medical field shouldn't use the values as the ultimate definition but that's not the point in BMI. It's there as an indicator of problem, not diagnosis of problems.

Through studies it's found that in the vast majority of cases it's actually correct, and especially so for low end results. The medical field is starting to catch on to the idea that it's more 27 before medical problems are an issue as opposed to 25 and this may be counting more for the discrepancies. In around 80% of cases where BMI was outside healthy the individuals were, in fact, not in the best health.

So if your BMI is below healthy, or above 27, should you see a doctor for a DIAGNOSIS of an indicator of issues? Yes!

BMI is like a thermometer reading. Just because you have a mild fever doesn't give you a diagnosis of definitely being ill, but it does indicate there's a potential problem which may need a professional diagnosis.

Hey dante, just fyi, hypothyroidism is pretty treatable and very diagnose-able with a simple blood draw, so if you suspect it, it may behoove you to get a test done.

Be weird. Be random. Be who you are. Because you never know who would love the person you hide.

Yeah people tend to be less sensitive about underweight vs. overweight. You probably have the best idea if you're healthy or not. You're probably fine at whatever weight you're at. If you start developing weird symptoms, that's when you need to worry.

I'm going to schedule an appointment with the doctor soon. Since my mom has it (and my grandmother too, apparently), it should be a simple matter of just asking them to do a test. I'm a bit worried though, because my mom's is still not under control after many years of trying to treat it, so I hope if I do have it, it will just fix itself with medication.

Hmm or whether you use the "men's" no. or the "women's" ? Seem like this all is fraught with difficulties. OTOH, as Jack says it's not a dx.
