I'm near the end of my weight loss (I just lost 96 pounds and expect to lose about another 15 or 20 pounds) and I'm ready to invest in some new clothes.  I need to know my bra size.  Yes, I know you're supposed to subtract band size from bust size to determine the cup, but this does not work well once the band goes above a certain size.

My band size is 42 inches and my bust size is 47 inches.  According to standard measurements, that's a D or a double D.  Yeah, right!  I'm happy with my breasts, but they look more like large B cups or small C cups on my frame (I'm 6'1").

Can you ladies tell me what my size would be?  And recommend a good vendor?  Thanks!

Wondering the same thing, on wikihow http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-Your-Bra-Size it says I have a C/D?? So from what I understand it D's aren't always as large as we think, but.... That seems a little off, or well a lot off to me lol.

I just started hormones just short of 3 months and can't be a C let alone a D.

I measured my band at 33.5 and my bust at 37. So there is a 3.5" difference and according to the wiki site I'd be a C/D even though by site most would say I was an A. I thought possibly a B due to back size I'm also 6'1"

Hopefully we can get some more clarification, I will poke around more sites and post here if I find any better or more accurate measuring guides :)

I got better measurements on myself, and I found this site easier to follow http://www.herroom.com/bra-fitting-advice,901,30.html

So actually remeasured and my band is 32" and my bust is 36"

In the directions it says a 32" measurement equals a band of 34" and my bust is 36" so there is a 2" difference which would put me at a B cup. So I guess I'm a 34B, but I still think I should be smaller  ???

You think decades and decades of bras being around there would be a more black and white way of calculating the size!

I'm a similar size, and you're right - the 'rule' doesn't work at all (I have a few C cups in my closet that are way too big in the cup for me).  For me, a 44A is the best fit, and 42B sort of works with a band extender.  The best is to try them on for fit, if you can.

Thank you, Brittany!  I will try that.

And Harlow, good luck with your transition!

Clare,

Are you just starting transition?

If you are and if you still have male upper body muscle mass, this will through off any measurement system for bra sizing meant for natal women. I have the same problem you do and the measurement systems just do not work for me.

Just go with the under bust measurement and add a little for the band size.  For the cup size, try on the smaller cups sizes first and see what fits without wrinkling or puckering.

A professional fitter is still the best method to get a comfortable bra.

A pro fitter does work best.  For me, I start trying things an 2 cup sizes smaller than recomended.  Sometimes, the right fit may even be 3 cup sizes down.

A company callerd "Her Room" has a good guide called "know your breasts".  It does help geting to the right type of bra.

To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

Clare,

Are you just starting transition?

No, I am well into transition.  I initially transitioned from 2000-2003.  I have been retransitioning for the last two years.  (I had FFS in June with Dr. Spiegel.)  My muscle mass is pretty much history.    :)

Thanks, folks, for the suggestions!  I think I will try a 42B.  I just hope I can squeeze my DD's into it.  :P
