When I was in the second grade, at halloween, I wore a witch costume with a floor length black dress, petticoat, full face mask, black wig and pointy hat.   I have two nieces who were older and they had worn this costume.

I wore it at my grade school's costume competition and won second prize in the whole school.  I was beat out by a robot costume that consisted of boxes and tubing.

When the principal awarded me the prize, a checker set, he said that none of the teachers could figure out who I was?:  What's your name little girl?   I had to tell them that I was a boy.

In the first grade the teacher wrote on the blackboard, "I am a girl, I go to school" and "I am a boy, I go to school".   We were told to copy the sentence that applied.  You know which one I wrote.

I really thought I was able to make that choice.  I really wanted to be a girl.... Still do!

Never crossdressed until I started questioning my gender a bit more than a year ago. Never was interested in it. I only did it to see what it would feel like.

Of course once I had done it once, it called to me in a way I can't explain.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I went straight for my mom's clothing when I was first left home alone at the age of 8. I remember it clearly... panties, bra, dress. It felt so amazing, because it's something I'd been needing to do for years by that point. Whenever I was in a situation where I knew I wouldn't get caught, I went straight for my mom or sisters' closets. I was good at covering my tracks, though, and they never discovered me. Later, i dressed openly with my two spouses while I was still living as a male. Those experiences were fun, but awkward and tense as my partners were not okay with my transness. I finally decided to take hormones and begin transition, and it was around this time that I wore male clothes to my therapist's office, changed into female mode in his bathroom, and went home as a woman. I don't/can't drive, so I had to walk to a bus stop and ride it home. I was so terrified and exhilarated to be out in public in the correct clothing. I expected every car that passed me to slow down and yell transgender slurs out the window. On the way to the bus stop, I realized I had to pee really REALLY bad, and I ducked into a grocery store hoping for a single-stall bathroom. I carry a white cane (blindness), and when I was forced to choose between a men or women's bathroom, I decided I'd use the men's to avoid trouble. A woman saw me entering the men's room, and said, "No, no, no honey! Wrong bathroom", and she physically redirected me to the women's room. Later, when I got on the bus home, the driver referred to me as "ma'am". At that point, I figured I was striking most people as female, and I began to relax and enjoy the clothing and the status I was assigned by those around me. It was a great, reassuring experience, and the culmination of experiences of this kind gave me the courage to shed my socially-conservative upbringing and pursue full transition. No regrets!!

puberty, the publicly last weekend at a party in WeHo, then at my favorite neighborhood restaurant. it felt natural and, in the end, anticlimactic. I could have done without the shaving.

First time was maybe 4 or 5 years old? I asked my mom to paint my finger and toe nails, and I have a memory at some point of her putting a frilly dress on me, probably because I asked her to.

Later on when I was a tween and from then on when ever I could. Worse nail polish and girls' clothes in high school (no dresses though, and it's a wonder I never got beat up). No so much when I was married the last 9 years, as I had little privacy, but I still did sometimes.

Now that I have decide to transition, finally, I do wear lots of unisex girl's clothing, like jeans and tops, and I paint my finger and toe nails, and have been growing my hair (again, just cut it shoulder length a few months back, which was a mistake).

My 22 year old son lives with me, so again, little privacy, except when he's out.

But I did just buy myself this dress.  :)

I have no plans on dressing as a female in public until I can pull it off... so after I start HRT, have my facial hair removed, and some FFS. A cis female friend of mine keeps telling me I look fine, and have a cute face, but I have a big nose for a woman, and that has to go! lol

I put my mother's girdle on at about 7, and didn't try anything else for 50 years. I guess that girdle thing wasn't a very good experience. I've been wearing skirts and dresses in private for a couple years. I've worn a sarong in public a couple times. I like sarongs because you can vary the length according to your mood and the circumstances.

Thanks! It's actually a little too long, so I'm holding it up with my other hand.  lol  That's the problem with being short.  :-\

I'm going to drop it off to the taylor up the street.

But still, it put a smile on my face, just as fitting into size 8 petite skinny jeans did yesterday.  ;D

It's actually black, but blue is my favorite color. I'll get a blue one next time. :)

That dress looks nice on you, and you can't have enough black dresses I'm told :D

I first wore my sister's stuff when I was about 6. I was pretty good at covering my tracks too and I don't think anyone ever knew.

I remember the double heartbreak of puberty: first the arrival of body hair, then growing too big for my sister's clothes and shoes :(

I hated you, puberty :)

Thank you!

And this is true! Most of my clothes are black. My 8 year old daughter was shocked to see me in pink socks for the first time. I'm trying to add some color. ;) Of course she thought they were girl's socks. They were, but I told her boys can wear pink. ;) (I'll cross that bridge when I get there). She's used to me wearing nail polish though, but the socks? Go figure.

I had a girlfriend catch me one time with girl's panties on! I remember they were white lace. Cognitive dissonance set in, and the only thing she could think of was they belonged to someone else! I told her I just liked them. Another time she wondered why I had shaved my legs. This was back in the late 70s. We are still friends on Facebook, and I told her I was transgendered just recently. I said "looking back on this, maybe this isn't a surprise"... but it was. She had no idea. My ex wife on the other hand said; "now it all makes sense!" She was referring to my personality, interests, and mannerisms.

Oh God yes! I remember it like it was yesterday... my first public hair! I pulled it out!  :o  It was all down hill from there.  :'(  I got hairier, but never grew any bigger though. Sometimes that bothered me, as I was often much smaller than most of the girls I was dating (one was 6ft tall!), but now I am eternally grateful!

I would say also around 4 or 5.  My sister had an abundance of clothes and I was more than happy to hide them...   As I hit puberty, I loved skirts and dresses...  Even in my 20's skirts, tights, and heels.  Overcompensation I guess....   After starting hormones... I still love them, but I prefer my Diva jeans (wife says they fit my personality), runners, and unisex or ladies tops.   I guess with the changes it is more about the feel of my body than the clothes...

First public, I was 19 and ventured out to meet a girl I meet of another forum...  She was a huge help, but I stopped going because I am not a bar type gal.

I don't drink, but I smoke more than a blue hair on a heater playing slots in Reno...
The bravest thing I ever did was live when all I wanted to do was die.

If someone shows you their true colors, don't try to repaint them.

I wore dresses since I was 12 or so. I wanted to do so earlier around the age of 8 or 9 but had no convenient access to female clothing.

Always scolded myself for having the desire to want to be female bodied and dress in female attire so I would only do it off and on throughout my early years.

Now I wear them all the time in public and in private. Been on HRT for over 6 months!  ;D

That is so true... every woman must have at least one black little number in their closet..

ok now my answer.

I seem to be a late bloomer... I remember wanting to be a girl or wondering what it felt like to a little girl at a young age around 5 or 6. but I only actually had a desire to wear womens clothing at 14. Then I wore my first pair of pantyhose hose.... I wore my first skirt at 16. I am ashamed to say I stole that skirt from a girl at school.. she had a cheer leader skirt in her bag and i saw it and had a strong desire to wear it.. so I took it.. and tried it on later at home. (I always had some alone time after school). I loved wearing that skirt, i actually still have it.. but it dont fit.. HRt widened my hips.

My first dress (which I bought)... I wore at 19.. I went out publicly dressed as woman hmm around 20. Now at 24... almost 25.. as a fulltime woman.. I wear a skirt everyday as it part of my work uniform.. I work in retail. I love wearing dresses/skirts and don't wear pants a lot, in the summers months not at all.

Enjoying ride the hormones are giving me... finally becoming the woman I always knew I was
