18 Years Old, Need Advice.

I'm sorry, I haven't posted an introduction yet but this is a bit urgent.

My name is Emil, I'm 18 years old, I'm from Baytown TX (near Houston) and I just came out to my parents.

It's been an incredibly difficult... well, week. Month. Year. I've been staying in m dear friend's guest bedroom.

Coming out didn't go over well, and I think it's best if I try to start supporting myself now. I'm looking into finding a job, getting a driver's license, finding a roommate or a few if I can.

I just need some advice...

One. If anyone is near Houston or Baytown, is there any place for transgender people on their own at this age to get a head start or get some help? I don't know when I'll ever be able to get on hormones, but what I need right now is a place to start. Maybe a place that offers counseling as well.

Two. What should I do in terms of legal names and stuff? I assume I'll have to have my legal name and sex on my driver's license, but what if I'm applying for a job? I don't think I could handle working in a place where I'm forced to present as female.

Misleading information on an application can be grounds for dismissal. You can apply and ask to be called by another 'nickname'. Name changes vary by state but the info is readily available for the process. I think it is in Susan's wiki.

I'm in Australia so I cannot really help with your situation on the ground, we have many USA members who can help.

The local LGBTIB center may have help for emergency accommodation.

As for a provider to help with therapy you can try www.wpath.org and there is a link on the page to find providers in particular areas.

But you are not alone now, there are many of us here who have walked this path and we will try to help.
