As most of you know by now, I am very new here and have just started my path to becoming a women. I never really crossed dressed much, and have just recently excepted my fate so to speak as to my gender. So with that said, I honestly don't know the first thing about makeup. Where does one start? I really need to come out to someone here local in my area for some help on this matter but the transgender group I am in is very tight knit and there are rules that what is said in the group stays in the group. All for good reason which I understand completely. That said it would be nice to have a girlfriend that could help me.

Anyway, where does one learn how to put on makeup properly... Is there a makeup for dummies book... (Laughing) I sure as hell don't want to look like a tramp or look like I played with a coloring book on my face... This is almost embarrassing for me...

Starting with mascara would be nice. Then eyeliner and eye shadow.
Lipstick is the easiest one to wear.
Then foundation and powder.
Actually these 3 are what I wear everyday.

I look like an offensive lineman for the Chicago Bears and never used makeup before, but a few weeks ago I went nervously into an ULTA store told them I was looking for makeup for me as I was a transsexual who was finally coming out (oh 45, so OLD and ugly like a lineman, fat too, so had it all working against me) and they introduced me to the nicest teacher I could have ever hoped for. The Clinique girl, put her lab coat to the real test and took over two hours to teach me and show me from nuts to bolts how to clean my face in the morning, put on make up for work (not nearly ready for night makeup or looking fancy) then how to take it off and clean my face before bed. She even wrote all the steps down and what was used at each step. I went from nervous to oblivious to the rest of the world in minutes, all the way to having one of the best days of my 45 years ever!

So, if you are able (as sometimes I can be overly brazen, a trait I learned from pretending to be a man who is in charge of his life and can lead the way. Because though I am faking confidence I am in fact still being brazen lol if you can understand that) I highly recommend setting your fears aside and go on in. I was in a suburb of a major metropolitan area, a blue collar area, so there are better places to do it, and certainly worse. As I would not have done that in a small town, so if you live there I would say to take a trip to your nearest metro area if you do it solo like I did.

I wore my first piece of makeup 3 years ago which was some eyeliner. YouTube taught me the rest.

I totally agree,

There is more makeup advice on YouTube than you could possibly imagine.

I recommend spending a day or two watching Youtube, I really like Joe and Pixiwoo:

In as few words as possible, make-up is all about playing with lights and shadows. For a daytime look use less, for a night out you start by creating a blank canvas on your face, conceal the beard, use foundation and concealer to create a uniform canvas and then you draw on what you want, slim your nose, reduce your jaw, open up your eyes, etc.

To start with buy cheap drug store brands, no sense in wasting money and don't be afraid to experiment if front of the mirror, washing it all off and starting over.

I agree that YouTube is the best place to start learning. I've been following Pixiwoo and others for a long time. Joseph Harwood's a new one to me, though. I prefer to go directly  to their YT video pages:

Leighann is mostly cosmetic reviews, but she's a very fun follow. Most of what she uses comes from CSV, Ulta or Target and not overly expensive:

A pro who shares a lot of good ideas:
