I myself have gone through a few names before I chose Lavinia for a long while I was using a greek name which was Athena but decided that the name didn't suit me too much and I decided to check for names and came up with the Latin name Lavinia which is a roman goddess in ancient times. it is a very old name dating back to the roman empire so that's how I decided on the name I could of kept the greek name but decided not to. Also make sure you chose a name you like since you're name is you're identity and it will be with you for the rest of your life, I may decide to have Athena as my middle name but not sure yet have to see how it sounds maybe someone can tell me if Lavinia Athena sounds unique since I don't want a common name I may even use Eris which is another greek name.

I was adopted as an infant and was 40 when I met my birth mother. She said she was going to name me Sheila if she had kept me. I told her I was glad she gave me up because I HATE that name. My oldest half-sister got stuck with Sheila LOL!

Haha, thanks everyone! ^^ From the sounds of it, for some it eventually just clicks, and hopefully I'll get there as well. I do have a few names that prefer over others, but I think I need to be further along in the transition to really feel comfortable enough with adopting a feminine name without it feeling weird.

I saw Paige on the office door of someone named Paige. For some reason I took a shine to it.

I'd gone through a bunch of names before the one I selected for reasons of I met someone with the name or someone else took it. Paige still feels like my name. Though it is still sometimes very weird knowing that Paige is my name now, legally and all.

Paige,
I have a cousin whose last name is Six. He married a girl named Paige. I'm not joking.  :D

Nattie,
As for names, I'm still Questioning, but I will admit that I've fallen in love with my chosen name. I used to fantasize about having a daughter and would always play with names in my head. When I started thinking of a new name for myself, I knew I wanted to keep to keep my initials, which are TWO. The name just came to me fairly easily and I think it flows and fits me well.

Full name: Tegan Willow O-----

I like how Celtic it sounds. It has strength and also grace. I think it's a name to live up to. It translates to beautiful, tall, and slender. I'm already the latter two, and I aspire one day to be the former as well.

Cheers,
Tegan

Lavinia Eris has a nice sound to it.

Tori

I chose Tori because of Susan's.

I was registering and realized I would have to come up with a username.

The name stuck. Eventually, it will be my legal name. Every new person who meets me, meets me as Tori. My mom calls me Tori.

Why did I pick it? Two reasons. 1: it was close enough to my male name. 2: I have never known a Tori who had ruined the name for me.

I am even warming to Victoria.

Do not call me Vickie.

Miranda Catherine

My given name was Randy, and when I transitioned I just feminized it by going by 'Randi' instead. I didn't know it till I transitioned that my parents were going to name me Randi if I was born a girl too, but good cis-girlfriend named Vickie told me "How about Miranda? The nickname for Miranda is Randi anyway! And you'll have a pretty name to go by officially, when Randi sounds too playful." So I changed it, but it took me awhile to really warm to it. Now I love it, and I'm known by Miranda, Mira and Randi, but I like Mira and Miranda even more than Randi. Miranda Catherine Thomson. Catherine is my maternal grandmother's first name, my favorite grandma. I just had my new endocrinologist sign my paperwork to change my name and gender and I'm going next week to change it. I can't wait till the day I get to pull out the license that reflects the real me and my true gender! Hugs, Mira

A holy Goddess appeared in my room hoovering atop a burning pie with her arms outstretch and said "Thou shalt be Virginia!!!"

LOL... It's a long story, but basically it's a name I've always liked after a childhood girlfriend

PrincessPatience

I tried Carly, Haprer and Melody but none of those name fit me it felt like i was trying to be somone.  I picked Patience because it seemed to be the name that fit me the most. I also thought of my parents what would they want and all my sisters had virtue names. So patience felt authentic.  I saw the Catwomen movie with Halle Barry in it and ever since i was little i've always loved catwomen and other girl figures. Halle's character name was Patience and i really related to the movie and it helped change my life.

Especially this quote:

"The day I died was the day I started to live. In my old life, I longed for someone to see what was special in me. You did, and for that, youll always be in my heart. But what I really needed was for me to see it. And now I do. Youre a good man, Tom. But you live in a world that has no place for someone like me. You see, sometimes Im good. Oh, Im very good. But sometimes Im bad. But only as bad as I wanna be. Freedom is power. To live a life untamed and unafraid is the gift that Ive been given, and so my journey begins." "

In the movie she dies as insecure girl but is given a second chance and reborn as catwomen.

I found it power seeing how i was going through the same thing.
I couldn't see myself living a lie and continuing the road i was on. It would've been depressing and my future would've been none existent. Life is all about change and i needed that change. That's why i physically/Mentally needed to die from being the old scared, depressed, insecure and lifeless boy and being reborn as the confident, full of life girl/ young woman i meant to be now.

I did observe a "problem" with Paige given that I'm often working on a web page for my job.

"We should do this on that page."

"This page needs to be easier to use!"

With my head down in code sometimes I have to pick my head up thinking someone is talking to me!

I stole mine from a Brazilian super model and added a letter.

CaitlinH

I've always loved the name Catherine, so after thinking about it for a number of weeks I figured that it would be a good place to start. There are so many variations of the name, but I eventually settled for Caitlin due to my Irish ancestry and desire for a modern and popular form. I was tempted to feminise my male name (Alexander -> Alexandra/Alexis), but I felt that it is a unisex name that is stereotypically male even in its feminine form. I know it's silly, but I feel that if I was to remain as Alex I just wouldn't be able to move on from being considered male.

Ellesmira the Duck

I went back and forth with mine for awhile. Originally, growing up long before I told anyone, I was rather fond of Isabella, but that just happens to be the middle name of my girl friend's least favorite grandma, so she really was giving me some resistance on that front, which I can understand. For a little bit I was leaning towards Adriana because it sounded similar to my male name, Drinian, but eventually Ellesmira seemed to stick more. Elly for short, since it's kind of a long name. The name itself is sort of a variation of one from a book series I'm fond of, which seemed fitting since Drinian also came from a book series.

I am a weird girl, I like video games and skirts, swords and nail polish, sharks and black lace...not sure if that's normal, definitely sure that I don't care. =P

I've always liked the name Isabella and had also thought about taking it  8)  Mostly because I had a mad crush on Isabella Rosellini for several years

Miyah48

I think i went to a site, sat down with a glass of coke and searched through 600 names. double checked the list picked 3. Picked the name I liked the most, then whenever a solicitor called I used that name and see how i felt when i said it. Then I decided on Miyah.

I've been meaning to post on this thread for a bit but I never seemed to be able to write a coherent post, mostly just ended up in tears.

I always envied people who's name was at the start of the alphabet, first for everything .....
I love unique names, by definition a name is a unique thing by which to identity someone and a beautiful name that I have not heard before is like a puzzle, what does it stand for, does it mean something, etc.

I wanted a name that worked in a multilingual context, I hated having to spell my name for everyone and then trying to explain how to pronounce rolling R's and clicking L's
I started reading through a list of names, namely the list of approved female names in Australia (they have a pretty comprehensive list regardless of anyone's feelings of the state|country having authority over which names you can use).

I got as far as "A" when I read Antonia, I've only ever known one Antonia and she was the Yin to my Yang but sadly got into hard drugs and passed away.
If I could have named my daughter after her I would have but since that was out of the question I thought ... .. . . ..

I hope she would approve.

Where can you find this list. Just curious because I'm curious as the names in our family are unique for Australia so I would love to see how close they came to the line. At school teachers could always recognize a member of my family just by looking at the first names of the rolls

I honestly can't remember why I chose my current name. Since I was a child I wanted to use my current  name (not sure why).
My parents didn't had a female name for me as they knew I would be a "boy" xD (I interrogated my mother to find out what my name would be if I was born a girl)

When I first came to a trans* youth meeting (I didn't even know 100% sure I was trans* back then) they asked how I would like to be called. I panicked and I said that name which I always liked before and it just sticked.
