The HRC is planning on starting campaigns in three Deep South states, going door-to-door to introduce people to LGBTQIA people, and starting up a small office of 20 people in each state.

Keep in mind that these states were the most violent during the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s.

I reside in Mississippi, so I hope this goes well. I will certainly participate if possible.

I'm sure there is a Jehovah's Witness joke in this somewhere.
The South is gayer than is realized/admitted, just most keep it on the downlow so as to not offend or upset.

I'm in Louisiana......and New Orleans seems the best bet for the LGBTQAI oppportunities (Baton Rouge BITES...)

I wish the HRC would open an office here. My resume would be in so fast.....grr
To be or not to be....that is the question

Woohoo! As someone who has to deal with the stupidity of living in Alabama, I fully support this. Maybe it'll at least make things slightly better here.

Cynically, they could be trying to chum the waters to see if they can get someone roughed up (or worse) to draw media attention to their cause the way the "COFO three" did for the Civil Rights movement in '64.

New Orleans is pretty low hanging fruit...  ;)

Or worse.  Backlash can be a bitch.

@Greeneyedrebel, I'm from New Orleans!! :D! Though I'm stuck in Mississippi at least until I graduate -_- But, yes, New Orleans is one of the few places in the deep south that is (for the most part) very accepting of LGBTQIA. Then again, just about anyone has a proper place in New Orleans.

Those are three tough states but I support whatever can be done to make sure that TGLBQI people have everything everyone else has. I'm not a fan of HRC because they have thrown transgender people under the bus before. I also believe that securing rights is not done in the boardroom or the living room. Many rights were secured because people stood up and said "No more!"

Exactly my reservations.

I hear ya there! It's like during the Civil Rights campaign in these states. It got worse before it got better when minorities started fighting for voting rights. And that's just voting rights, not marriage rights or anything else like that.

Yeah, I'm not sure how exactly they're gonna treat trans* people, but I'll definitely be one in the fight. I'll be sure to give trans* people a voice in the movement here. Whether it goes heard or not is not up to me.
