Illinois warns insurance companies not to discriminate against transgender people

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois regulators issued a reminder to health insurers that it is illegal to deny coverage to someone because they are transgender, drawing praise from the gay rights community.

The PPACA already bans denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, including being transgender (but does not require that insurance cover the transition-related procedures themselves). It appears the statement basically affirms that - no mention of insurance being required to cover SRS, etc., but that insurance companies cannot refuse to give transgender people general coverage.
