What a wonderful news segment. Cindy, you should be ever so proud of yourself for participating.
Two parts stood out for me:
- The bit where you explained how the "male" you was someone you owed a huge debt to for protecting you and looking after you before you came out. For someone like me who is struggling to stop despising my wasted male life prior to starting transition, this made so much sense. Realizing that the reason I'm here today, becoming female, is because the prior male "me" took good care of the female "me" up to this point (even if the female "me" doesn't always appreciate it) helps tame some of the irrational anger and sadness that I spent four decades in the wrong body, and maybe can help me start to put the past into its proper context.
- Your last few words about how we're still wandering down the aisle of the bus looking for the seat. Such a great description, and one which makes it clear to viewers of the segment that the battle for transgender equality is in its infancy and puts it into the correct context of a civil rights struggle. Much work lies ahead, and I have no doubt that with such an honest and open portrayal of yourself in the news segment, you've added many allies.
Really well done. (And you look great too!)
