Ali girl

I miss my days of gaming...  I'm a console girl though as I have the PS3 and x360.  School, work, and kids have really drained the time to actually play.
The bravest thing I ever did was live when all I wanted to do was die.

If someone shows you their true colors, don't try to repaint them.

lol... I think I'm too old to be a "real gamer" if it means I've got to be anti-console. You young'uns with your fancy gaming PCs... Back in my day consoles were all we had, and gaming on them was pretty much my life when I wasn't being forced to do something like stop playing and go to school. :P

I don't get the console vs. PC thing. Or the "console wars," either. Who cares? It's all about playing quality games to me. I mostly play on my PC these days, 'cause it's cheaper and I'm poor.

In that case your doing it wrong. I cry when I think how much money gets sunk into my gaming PC  :'(

How old is too old to be a gamer? I am 28 and play alot. I know people who are in their 40s and 50s and play as often as I do.

lol wouldn't that mean you are doing it wrong then, because it could be done cheaper :p

My setup was probably $500 overall, I did hunt for deals a bit, if I were to have bought every part new, and not on sale, then sure it would have been more. The only thing that costs over $100 was my Radeon r9 280x, and that I also got at a great deal anyway. before I went FX, I had an A10 and with that so long as you are fine with 720/1080p and low to med settings you can get a gaming PC very close to the price of a console, and then save money on the games.

@Pikachu: lol there was never a time when consoles were all that you could have had. I certainly preferred my Commodore to my NES when I was a child :) It does seem though, that early PCs weren't really as popular as consoles (but to be fair they still aren't).

I was being sarcastic. I'm only 27. I just mean I was around long before people cared about console vs. PC gaming.

I'm doing it wrong? Hehe~ Want to know how much I spent on my PC? Nothing. I scavenged and repaired all the parts.

I suppose. But you know what I mean. PCs back in those days didn't have much functionality. Now you can use them to do whatever you want, but back then, they might as well have been gaming consoles, too, since the only other thing you were probably doing on them was typing letters.

I'm impressed at anyone who can build a half decent rig from scavenged and repaired parts. I was just implying that in general, the hardware side of PC gaming is more than a console, especially over the life of a console system.

I build my rig initially for about £350, but since then its had a new processor and graphics card in so its at least doubled now. But unlike a PS4 or XB1 I know I can run high settings and maintain 60fps nice and solid.

I used to have a C64 back in the good old days too, before I had my first console, a Sega Master System with Alex Kidd built in  :icon_geekdance:

I'd consider it half decent. It wasn't built specifically for gaming, but I've never had any issues running games on it. It's not going to run the latest games at the highest settings, obviously, but it gets me by.

I've always been a PC gamer.  My wife on the other hand has surrounded our TV with consoles... so many consoles.  Every time I try to play with her I spend half the game trying to not let the damn controller kill me with its wierdness and inability to mouselook.

Problem with my computer is I keep running out of money halfway through so it always has an anchor of some kind weighing it down.  Current setup has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition and 16GB of overclocked Mushkin Redline memory on an Asus Crosshair IV Formula.

And like a 6 generations old graphics card because I had to get the cheapest thing I could that would fit the new mobo... ran out of money.

Blah.  :P

As a consequence, I don't get to swim in the current generation of games' pool until I can get a worthy card.  Which mainly only bothers me because I really want to try Star Citizen.

I don't know, I'm not sure I think about "real" gamers and stuff like that. If you like games, you're a "real" gamer. I have an insanely expensive gaming laptop (like a couple of thousand pounds worth of expensive), yet I play a lot of the newest games on my PS4. Why? Because I like it. Because sometimes it's just nice to turn on the console, with the soothing UI, on my big screen TV, and just have a blast for a while, while doing other stuff on my laptop.

Star Citizen (at the moment) is highly over-rated. Elite:Dangerous on the other hand is phenomenal.
