I've seen a video with a girl in it who took the same approach. But -forcing- it is very ill-advised, yeah. You can cause some serious damage that way (as with trying to do any voice training too fast).
It's all about muscle memory. If that's how you're going to try to do it, you have to teach your muscles to work in that position... and it takes a lot of time. Little by little, like even just five minutes of practice a day (again, too much causes damage), and you will eventually get to where you want to be with your voice. Eventually it becomes like second nature, and you have to think about it to return to your original voice. Eventually.
Give yourself time. It's not going to happen overnight, no matter what technique you use.
