Hey everbody.

I had my top surgery yesterday. Everything went well and I came back home this morning. I was wondering how bad the swelling was for those who had top surgery? I mean, when I look at my results, it almost looks like they didn't remove anything.

I had very small moobs to being with (like barely an a), and now, there still is an a cup. It makes me worried they didn't remove enough. I had the doughnut procedure done, if it makes any difference.

So, how bad was the swelling for you guys? Did it still give you moobs for a couple of weeks? Did it eventually pass?

From what I understand, the swelling is usually quite bad. I've seen videos on YouTube where it looks like the guy sill has an a cup. I wouldn't worry. It can take a while for all the swelling to subside
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

When you say doughnut, you mean the peri-areolar?

Swelling is normal.  Don't worry about it.  Seriously, it will be ok.

I had pretty much no swelling at all, but I had a DI.  I've heard plenty of guys talk about having swelling, though.  Like Brett said, it'll be fine.  Remember, you're only one day post-op!

Thanks for the replies, guys. I do feel a little better. I guess glancing down after surgery and still seeing small moobs there was very demotivational. It kinda looked like nothing much had happened at all, apart from having bloody nipples. I had hoped I would be nice 'n flat, but no such luck yet.

And I believe it is called peri? It's the one where they make the incision along the nipple and work from there.

So far, I still have moobs, but i'm hopeful it's just fluid and not tissue remnants. As you can tell, patience is not one of my virtues.

Yes that's a peri. I'd say it is VERY common in peri. Don't worry about it. I'm sure you're going to look awesome!

Just a quick update. I'm now 5 days post op and things are still pretty swollen/bruised. I'm quietly waiting for it to calm down. Tomorrow i'll have a check in at the hospital, so I'll ask them if things look okay.

Another question, though. I have developed a very sore, red patch of skin above one of my moobs. It's very sore and actually at my collarbone, going down towards my nipple but not even near the wounds. It started to be sore two days ago, and today it's quite red. Could this still be an infection of some sort? It's in a way funny that the patch of skin is more painful than the moobs themselves right now.

If you were bandaged it could be irritation from adhesives or even an allergy. I would think you should ask the surgeon. If he is not local you can always email a picture.

Thanks for replying, Aleon. Really appreciated :)

Turned out I did have an infection. Oddly enough the infection wasn't at the wounds, but at my pecs. It all became very sore, red and swollen. Thankfully, the antibiotics have kicked in and the pain is getting less. The swelling is still there and worsened at the infected site. I wonder if the liquid should be drained? Or will the body slowly reabsorb it again? My biggest worry is that  the swelling will alter my results and make my chest look really bad after it is healed.

Mentally it's all very draining. Right now, my chest is the biggest it has ever been. Top surgery felt like such a relief, so taking two steps back afterwards is a hard blow.

Glad to hear you decided to check things out.  I would assume the body would absorb it, but I don't really know.  I can't think of a logical reason to think that the swelling will alter the results.  I assume that they didn't give you antibiotics after surgery?  Garramone does that.  I wonder if other surgeons do that?

I would gather giving antibiotics after surgery is very common.

I thought I would post an update so people know what happened, and know what could possibly go wrong with topsurgery.

My swelling was initially just surgery swelling, but after a week it suddenly increased by a lot. An infection was found and I was given antibiotics that should have solved it. But no such luck.

Today I went to the hospital because I felt worse, and the hospital discovered that both sides were filled with pus and thus severely infected. I must be one of the most unlucky transmen out there, as they had rarely seen an infection this bad on both sides. They had to open up the stitches underneath the nipples and flush everything out. The entire procedure was incredibly painful. They left drains in and now I need to stay at the hospital for a couple of days because it needs to be flushed with a salt solution to beat the infection.
They weren't sure if my nipples would make it because they took quite a beating due to the pressure from behind.

So yeah, that's how this tale ended. Hopefully it'll be better in a couple of days. I must say this is quite mentally draining, but I do try to keep my head up.

Hey X,
man, I'm sorry this happened. I'm crossing my fingers that things get better quickly now!

X,
I am sorry you had to go thru that but appreciate the post. It helps to know what could be going on as we heal.  Heal fast and well! I am sending your nipples supportive, reattaching thoughts. :)

Dude, that sucks so bad. Much sympathy.
Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the positive vibes, guys. It means a lot :)

I'm still at the hospital, but I'm allowed to go home today. They kept the wounds opened and are still flushing out the infection twice a day, but it is getting better every day. The flushing still has to be done for a week or so, but the hospital provided me with some home care who will visit me twice a day to clean the wounds.

The status of my nipples is unsure. They are still black, but we don't know what's underneath the scab. If there's alive tissue there, the nipples may survive. The waiting game begins.

As awful and painful this experience was, I am glad it happened. I was lucky enough to end up in a room with three amazing transwomen. We talked and shared experiences and generally had a good time. Without these complications, I would have never met them. If my chest turns out alright, it was all worth it in the end.
