I don't know if this has been discussed on this board before, but I start to get the feeling that there is some epidemic of online harassment in the trans communities. I have seen it in my own environment and I've also read about it a lot in recent years.
While trans people are sometimes are trolled and harassed by cis people (like radical feminist activists), some also seem to engage in online harassment themselves. I was really disturbed when I read that people like Julia Serrano or Kate Bornstein are under massive attack from other trans people. In the past, there were similar attacks on the founders of Bilerico project, after they were accused (unjustly so) of being transphobic.
The trans community certainly isn't the only one where this happens. I've seen some posts by well-known games developers who were harassed so much by disgruntled fans (including death threats to their family and real live stalking) that they stopped working in the computer games industry.
I define online harassment (as opposed to discussing an opinion) as a behavior that has the intention to silence someone completely, be it by constant verbal/written harassment or threats. When people get harassed so much that they take down their blogs, don't participate in online groups anymore, or even withdraw from social contacts, the harasser has won.
