I hope so. Online trolls have led to dozens of suicides due to cyber-bullying. I don't wish death upon any of them but there needs to be consequences to their behaviour.
Stooping down, dipping my wings, I came into the darkly-splendid abodes. There, in that formless abyss was I made a partaker of the Mysteries Averse. LIBER CORDIS CINCTI SERPENTE-11;4

I don't like it when anyone dies, even if they have done terrible things to others. Still, I do think online trolls who cause harm to others should be exposed.

Meh. Some people get what's coming to them eventually. I have no sympathy for people like that.

I can't say that I'm saddened by the death of someone like that, but obviously they didn't deserve to die simply for being mean. Internet trolls... Well, that's what we've got moderators and such for. Unless it seems like someone is making serious threats, or is continually harassing someone without provocation, I'm not sure there needs to be any more severe punishment besides the usual warnings or bans. I've always thought, in a way, the life of a troll is its own punishment. How pathetic and unenviable a life must someone lead to waste their time making others feel bad for no reason?

Sadly, trolls thrive in poor/low moderation environments (96.5% on the internet). I think it's the belief in the anonymous freedom they perceive they have to bully and harass that makes them so nasty, when called out for it they suddenly feel the ugly spotlight of public opinion on them.

Yes a friend on my FB was being stalked by someone.
I looked up the guys profile and pages he had, and reported him.
But it was scary, because you don't know what they will do if they find out.?

Well, I view idiots that screw with people online and jerks that mess with people offline as being one and the same. The only difference is that the offline douche stands a larger chance of getting their teeth knocked out (or worse). The online loser can do whatever they want without fear of retribution. (Or so they think) I have no sympathy for anyone that gets what is coming to them when they screw with people. Even if it results in their death. You plays your games, you takes your chances. If people would use their brains, rather than acting like brainless schmucks. The world would be a better place.

Well, the reason why I have that attitude is due to: 1. Being screwed with and picked on by so many people when I was younger (including my stupid drunk dad). and 2. Just seeing all of the stupid that crap that people do in this world. Whether it's the moron that yells at someone as they pass them in their car in a small town like mine, or the gangster idiots that kill each other over "turf". I just can't stand that large swath of idiots that comprise our society. I just wish people would learn to leave other people the hell alone when they aren't doing anything to them.

Rest assured Ebola and ISIS are coming to deplete the world's overpopulation problems, just lock the doors and keep the morons out on the street.  :D

I definitely agree with you on this one. Anonymity gives them the feeling like they can bully whoever and the chances they will ever be found out is slim to none. I really feel more sorry for them than anything because they have probably been bullied in real life, not saying they don't deserve what they get if they are exposed. And if they cause someone to commit suicide and it can be proven, then they need to face involuntary manslaughter charges.

I don't know if this has been discussed on this board before, but I start to get the feeling that there is some epidemic of online harassment in the trans communities. I have seen it in my own environment and I've also read about it a lot in recent years.
While trans people are sometimes are trolled and harassed by cis people (like radical feminist activists), some also seem to engage in online harassment themselves. I was really disturbed when I read that people like Julia Serrano or Kate Bornstein are under massive attack from other trans people. In the past, there were similar attacks on the founders of Bilerico project, after they were accused (unjustly so) of being transphobic.
The trans community certainly isn't the only one where this happens. I've seen some posts by well-known games developers who were harassed so much by disgruntled fans (including death threats to their family and real live stalking) that they stopped working in the computer games industry.
I define online harassment (as opposed to discussing an opinion) as a behavior that has the intention to silence someone completely, be it by constant verbal/written harassment or threats. When people get harassed so much that they take down their blogs, don't participate in online groups anymore, or even withdraw from social contacts, the harasser has won.
