injection infection?

the title may rhyme but this is serious post.

just a bit of a background info: I've been on T for almost four years and I do my own shots. I'm 22, and this has never happened before. I know its against the rules to post dosage information so I won't post about that.

I injected on Monday night and everything was okay, I aspirated, that was normal, no blood in the syringe. After, a little bit a blood came out from the site  but that's happened before. Last night, (wednesday, 2 days after I injected) I noticed there is a knot on my thigh where I injected and a big red spot over the knot. I got a little anxious because that's never happened before. I did a quick search online and asked a few folks and some things came up and it came down to a number of things. I decided to wait till today to see if it went down but when I woke up this morning, the injection site hurt and the knot is more firm. Red spot over knot is still there. Didn't wake up till almost 1pm, had a therapy appointment at 3 and its far away so I didn't get home till 5pm, and the doctors closed at 5pm so I can't go to the doctor now.

So, I did more research and now i'm worried its either an infection or something else is wrong. The red spot over the knot is bigger than an inch and is mostly round. Then I read it could be a broken blood vessel or I did my injected wrong and I need to go the ER. So now i'm really scared that something is wrong. I currently have some ice on my thigh to help but i'm not sure it will do anything. The spot hurts, its very firm under my skin and I don't know what to do. I can't do anything until morning and even then, I don't know if the doctors can get me in.

I hope i'm not exaggerating or anything. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac.. but i'm genuinely scared. I found a very similar photo online of the same thing I have but on the message board, they never responded on how the doc visit went. If someone could give some kind of information or maybe if its normal that this could happen, I don't know.

Please don't read things on the Internet and assume the worst.  Dr. Google is more damaging than helpful 99% of the time.

Unless you are experiencing excruciating pain in your leg or legs, chest tightness/pain, pain in your jaw, difficulty breathing, sudden onset of fever, vomiting/diarrhea or discharge from the injection site - don't panic and wait until you can see your GP.

I had something like this happen and panicked, too.  It turned out to be nothing more than the fact that I'd injected during freezing weather without warming the injection first.

TMI here- I actually did have diarrhea today. But no fever. I feel like i'm having a bit of a cold, but I didn't think much about it. Not sure if that's related. If its not better or no change by morning, i'm making a doc appointment tomorrow.

Heat at the injection site is a good sign of infection. If it feels warm you might have it looked at if there is no relief in a day or two. Any discharge from the site is another.

it is warm. its one of the first things i noticed. no discharge.

Check with your doc if you are really worried. That being said I've had a red spot a few times but it was just because of how I pushed the needle in.

Another note along with what Kreuzfidel said: never trust google and don't ever use webmd. I looked up ways to help a swollen ankle from a sprain, and by the end I was convinced I had gout or ankle cancer.
