OK, this is really hard for me because I NEVER post my face online -- not even on Facebook! On top of that, I avoid cameras like the plague.. so very few pictures of me exist past age 7.

Despite all that, though, I'm very bad at picturing things in my head. And because of that, I can't just look at a hairstyle and imagine how it would look on me.. so I need help.  :P

Anyway, here are the pictures I promised:

From the front, neutral expression:
https://33.media.tumblr.com/0168c7f855118581b1e4afd4220591a5/tumblr_ndo1gy9GU81tfdf0mo4_400.jpg

Lower quality. From the front, slight smile (I can't fake a smile to save my life):
https://38.media.tumblr.com/9970c9459d4256193e5a7e4239fd8409/tumblr_ndo1gy9GU81tfdf0mo1_400.jpg

Low quality+bad lighting, but this is my face from the side:
https://33.media.tumblr.com/063ef9b4c624eb435af3e8002802491b/tumblr_ndo1gy9GU81tfdf0mo2_400.jpg

Here's a pic to give you an idea on how badly I need a haircut (the blue line marks where my hair ends. Which is at the bottom of my buttcheeks):
https://31.media.tumblr.com/bc71b0dd8af3f832273f58da72a505ac/tumblr_ndo1gy9GU81tfdf0mo3_400.jpg

A collage of quick, low quality "selfies" that better represent my personality:
https://38.media.tumblr.com/e9a2ade747da77456ea5d35c8a15c0bd/tumblr_ndo1gy9GU81tfdf0mo5_r1_1280.png

In addition to these pics, here's a list of things I want in a haircut, and things I don't want:

What I DO want:

  • Something that is relatively easy to style (I've never in my life styled my hair)
  • Something that works well with fine, thick, "frizzy" hair
  • Something that looks good with my hair color (I don't plan on dying it or adding highlights)
  • Something feminine, but also a "mens" cut (or a womens cut that would look good on a feminine man)
  • It would require styling, I know, but I like wavy, curly, and "curly-wavy" hairstyles best. Straight is "boring"
  • Something that is "age appropriate" (I'm 22), but also suits my hyperactive, goofy and childish personality

What I DON'T want:
  • Something super short
  • "Spiky" hair
  • Something with the sides buzzed short (don't know the name, but I'm sure you know what I mean)
  • Something slicked back
  • Anything that looks super greasy due to hair gel
  • Anything that looks super stiff from hairspray
  • Hair that stands straight up

Also, pics would be greatly appreciated (since I'm so horrible at picturing things in my head)

Here are some. I googled "mens mid length haircuts"
http://www.menhairstylestrend.com/mens-hairstyles-medium-long-hair/mens-hairstyles-medium-long-hair-2/
http://www.hairstylesidea.us/mens-mid-length-hairstyles.html

I think the last one might fit what you're looking for best? I'm not positive though :/

First and third pic are definitely the best two! I especially like the first one.  :) His hair looks to be a bit coarser than mine, though, so I don't know if that would affect how well my hair would hold it (my family tried giving me a perm when I was a kid and it was board straight again within an hour!). Another issue is sideburns -- it might look a bit silly without them. And because I'm not taking testosterone (at least not yet  :P) I can't grow any. My face might not be "square" enough, either.. idk.

(sorry if I sound really picky haha. I really do appreciate you taking the time to give me some ideas! I'd just rather be picky than get something I might regret getting)

Whoa, one of the pics are smushed! Weird..

But hmm.. nope, nothing that screams "get this one!" yet.  :(

To be honest, I really like this haircut that I found on Google a few days ago: https://38.media.tumblr.com/b26d09d86799de443ec88d8ca0e99ec8/tumblr_ndo92wsfac1tfdf0mo1_1280.jpg -- but I feel like I might not be able to pull it off.  :( Which is a shame because it's a really cute cut. I know it looks good in blonde, since the model is blonde. It's "wavy curly". It's not too long and not too short. It's relatively simple.. But again, I'd probably look crap with it. lol

Maybe try one of those "see what your face looks like with this hair cut" things? They have them on beauty websites.

I'm a little afraid they might keep my pictures though, haha.. Probably just paranoia, but still.  :P But I might try it if I get desperate. I can't get my hair cut for another 2-3 weeks, anyway.

your face is very masculine (jawline, etc.) so i think you could pull off that look. my hair looks like that when i grow it out and i don't have a square face but you have more of a face shape as the guy in the pic (imo), so if i can pull it off and not have a similar face shape to his but you do, i'm sure you could too. the style is really easy to maintain too (i have naturally curly hair) so its good imo.

You really think so??  :D

And heh, I think part of my problem is the fact that I've had the same exact hair "style" for.. well, ever (hence why it's so long). So it's really hard to imagine myself having anything else (even though I want something different lol)

I have to say that your hair is amazing. I love it! I hope you sell it or give it to "locks of love" or something after you cut it.

I am currently male and have long hair. I would love to be female... but thats a work in progress........  I think for mid length or shoulder length male style the part is important. A middle part is less feminine. Maybe I can find a pic someplace and post it, but like you I don't even post to FB and the like.

I've been afraid of changing, cuz I built my life around you.
but time makes you bolder, children get older , I'm getting older too.

I'm a little curious what you think about this one:

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQUXTQwXa7zK54Zc5OvoigElGorOebnLwnZPMK0fQ1vriKBJ6zc:www.redbookmag.com/cm/redbook/images/KY/rbk-short-hair-robin-wright-lgn-95140386.jpg

That's Robin Wright- I know that the person is female, but I feel as though that haircut can swing in any direction you'd like.

It's not too... anything, really. I think it's nicely delicate but also sleek and mature.

Also this:

Btw, I hope it's okay that I post here!

Wow, she has the same first name I've been using.  It definitely looks like it would be easy to maintain, though. Which is good. And I see what you mean by it being able to look good on men and women.

I may add it to my list of "maybe"s.  ;) Thanks for the suggestion!

yes, your face is especially masculine from the side i think. i think you can pull off short/medium haircuts easily. i can understand how it is a big leap but remember, hair grows back so even if it gets messed up, just know it isn't permanent.

Thank you.  :D I've never really hated my hair, but for obvious reason it makes it difficult to "pass" haha. Plus it's a pain in the butt to wash/brush every day! Not to mention I often end up pulling my hair by sitting on it.. even accidentally dunked it in the toilet a few times!

And yeah, I would like to give what I cut off to someone who needs it. Not only because it's a good thing to do, but also because it'd be such a waste to just throw it away! After all, it took several years for me to get it to grow that long.

I sure hope you're not just being nice.  ;) LOL. Thank you.  :D People often joke that I'm my Dad's clone, and I couldn't always see it, but the older I get.. yeah, definitely a big resemblance.  :P (I think one of the best "compliments" I've gotten was from an aunt, who told me "You look like your Dad in drag!". I just chuckled, but mentally I was thinking "That's actually the most accurate compliment I've ever gotten" hahaha)

You've got a great face :P
I think you could do with a bit of height, and overhang with your hair over your forehead though though :P

I had my hair like this for a while (yes I know its matt smith-he was an easy example) Its actually not that hard to style or maintain, and should look really good on you :P
I am the self proclaimed Queen of procrastination

Aw, shucks. Thanks, hehe.  :D

And wow, that hairstyle would scream "fanboy" if I got it! LOL. Back when Matt was still the Doctor, I was pretty much obsessed with Dr Who. So as you can imagine, I'm pleased to hear I could pull off a similar hairstyle.  ;D

I did a little messing around in photoshop. Added Brad Pitts mid length hair to your pic, I think it looks cool, has potential. I will remove the image from my server at your request. (No one will see it except thru this link here) http://www.wizards-domain.com/jade/hairtest.jpg

I think it passes a bunch of your "What I DO want:" criteria. Anyway I was just having fun with it, what do you think?

Wow, that hairstyle makes me look like I belong in Skyrim!  Like I'm a Nord hehe. Or maybe a rockstar..

If I can't find a shorter cut I like, I might end up getting something kind of like that. Actually.. I might end up doing something like that first, but still continue looking at shorter hairstyles, because going from super long to short might be a bit hard to adjust to all at once. So it could be a good idea to gradually make my way up to a shorter haircut.

Also, I wish I could use Photoshop like that!  I would be playing with hairstyles all day

Yeah I just did that in like 5 minutes. Its fun. Do you have photoshop? I could make you a quick tutorial on hairstyles/ layers / clone tool.

I agree, with your length you can try out some different styles as you go shorter. Too short and you are stuck having to grow it out.

Nope! Never even looked it up, really, because I didn't think I'd have much use for it.  :P Is it free? Or a free version, at least?

And that's very true.. Even my Dad suggested that I just start by getting a few inches cut off first, because I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted, and am someone who has trouble adjusting to change -- even positive change. And if I got a short cut I hated, I'd be miserable the entire time I'd have to wait for it to grow back.

Photoshop cs 2 is, last I checked, available for free on adobe's website. It's an older version, but it should work fine for your purposes :)
