I was just contacted by someone who used to be a friend and school mate. She said a person just showed up at her house with $50,000 for her. She said it was from the Poker Lottery Game on Facebook. She kept trying to get me to go to their page and like it because she "saw" my name on the list of winners. Something felt fishy to me and I refused to. She became irate and ended our messaging session. I went to the site on Facebook to read about it. The "company" seems to be a scam judging by the post's and reports to Facebook. I am glad I did not like their page because it does something to your computer it seems. PLEASE DO NOT LIKE OR MESSAGE THIS PAGE OR COMPANY!  >:(

There are a million scams on Facebook and I'd say you made a good call by refusing. Although I'm pretty sure you aren't going to get your computer hacked or infected just by clicking a like button.

You'd be surprised how far hackers have come along. Best way to be sure is to not click anything you don't know or trust.  :police:

I just wish it had not been an old friend trying to sucker me into this. I guess time changes people.  :( :(

Yeah, I keep getting calls from different people in India claiming to have names like James, John, Nancy and a lot of others. They say they are from Texas and other states claiming to work for Microsoft and they got a bunch of error reports from my computer. Every computer has errors on it from boot errors to losing power and so on. Errors are infinite on computers. They can help me if I go to this sight and download a program and then go to their sight and they can help me with all my errors. ::) They then can get into my computer and hold my files hostage. I usually keep them on the phone as long as I can just to cost them money and just mess with them. >:-) I won't go too far into what I do but it can get a little X rated. :embarrassed: Just play with them. OMG! One of the guys I swear was doing something and I should have charged him by the minute. :embarrassed: But scams are rampant an with everyone owning a computer just about now days, there are people that fall for it. One out of a thousand with how many billions in the world. Big bucks.

Best thing is that if something sounds too good to be true, it is. Never let anyone remotely access your computer. No legitimate company other than the online back up companies and the computer meeting companies will do anything like that. Microsoft definitely doesn't monitor error reports unless you report them.

BTW, claiming to be an old friend? Maybe not even anyone you knew.

I'm just skeptical, being fairly tech savvy myself. But I don't have much experience with Facebook, so I'm not going to claim that there's no possibility that clicking a like button could expose you to some sort of threat.

Anyway, yep. If something sounds too good to be true, 99% of the time, it is. Best to just avoid those companies altogether.

Oh, and Jessica, that's what I was thinking, too. Are you sure this was actually your friend sending you these messages?

Yes. We were talking about things from school that only she would know about. No doubt it was her. I had to unfriend.  :(

Wow, that sucks. So she just tried to rope you into going to this page after you talked for a bit and then got mad when you refused? That's pretty messed up. :(

Yes it is. I wonder about her connection to it now.  :eusa_think:

Are you sure it was actually your friend or someone that may have hacked into facebook? It may not even be your friend. School records are now all on computer and I'm fairly even sure mine are on computer even from so long ago. As in my case, "If this bitch ever shows up wanting to revisit, call the cops". I think the only reason I graduated was because they didn't want me an extra year. :-\ There is a lot of personal stuff online anyone can access and use against you. Even here since it is a public forum and anyone can read.

The conversation I alluded to was stuff that only two people would have knowledge of.  ;) ;) ;) It was her.

That is messed up. But the old friends ain't nothing like the new friends. I'm always leary of "old Friends" that pop up from my past from time to time. You know as well as I do that time changes people. The changes can be dramatic and we are living proof of that.

The thing is Jess it was incredibly cruel to me because being human I had a sudden though of SRS being a reality finally. Coming from a friend I briefly though it was real.  :'( :'( :'(

Yes it was. But that is part of any scam unfortunately. But sis, I stand behind what I say, old friends aren't anything like new friends. You never know to what levels people have dropped to especially when you have lost contact with them and then meet them on a social network like Facebook or anywhere else. It is so easy for people to play with your emotions and what you desire or what they think you desire. I could have been one of those people but I don't have the conscience for it.

Just remember that old friends that you have not had contact with in years are better left in the past, unless you meet them in the supermarket and so on face to face. And then still be really leery because people change over time. But you didn't fall for it so even though your hopes went down the drain, you are smart enough to take care of yourself. So Yay? That is a really big win. So sorry you got hurt in the process though. :(

It may be that your friend's FB was compromised and it wasn't even them you were talking too. Happens a lot where dodgy schemes are involved.

As for being infected by clicking a like button, if the like button is not on FB then pretty much any kind of dickey can go down.
