I've only ever used a guy's wallet. I really only ever have some cards and cash on me, so *shrug*
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

I've used a "male wallet" for as long as can remember. Since I was a little kid. Even going through "girly" phases when I'd get some sort of bag to fit in I'd have a guy's wallet inside. I recently bought a wallet case for my phone though, so it's even easier. Cell phone, ID, cash all in one pocket, Chapstick in the other. Chillin.

I keep everything I need in my wallet no problem. You don't keep other stuff in there, just paper, cards and coins.

In mine I have:

Debit card
Supermarket loyalty card
Work permit card
Nandos card
Subway card
Organ donor card
Union membership card
Driving license
First aid card
Possibly a few other business cards
Contact details for emergencies
Two photographs
Tube map
Supermarket vouchers
And normally a few receipts, cash on the odd occasion,  and coins.

It's still pretty thin, and leather, and it lives in the back pocket mostly, and front when I'm at work (pockets are just too high in those cargos) or in a city.

No more cards but they are always with you. I have probably about 15 cards on my phone because it most definately saves room!

I tried that but some of the terminals wouldn't scan the phone properly. The good news is that they offer key tags now so I just put them on my keys. There are really only one or two I use regularly anyway.

The one "loyaty" card I often use accumulates bonus points for a discount on gas.  No smart phone or key tag option will work on the gas pump, I need to insert the card.  So I carry cards, and cards, and Oh MY!  This goes in a tri-fold wallet and it goes in a front pocket.  Trying to sit on that would be truly painful.  I have lots of other stuff - mostly related to medications - I need to keep with me that will not fit in pockets even with men's clothing.  So I need to carry something else - usually a messenger bag.

Going out in female mode is a bit easier - everything I need fits in a big purse that is a bit less clumsy than the messenger bag.  And I even have a nice coin purse with Irish Wildflowers to go with the purse.  I have killed pockets on more than one pair of men's pants with coins - here in the US.

Just a view from the other side of the fence...

I just gave up my purse a month or so ago AND IT HAS BEEN SO LIBERATING LET ME TELL YOU. No more worrying about forgetting it somewhere, or checking behind me when I leave a restaurant table, or hoping I didn't leave my wallet at home! No more extra weight on my shoulder! No more feeling like I have to guard it from ninja purse-thieves when I go downtown!

I had no idea what a source of stress and anxiety my purse was until I gave it up. And once upon a time, I used to be one of those girls with the giant Mary Poppins purses full of everything one could possibly need. I think I had a lot more anxiety back then, probably...because I slowly just stopped caring about Making Sure I'm Always Prepared.

Now I'm so minimal, I just carry my ID and a few credit cards in a tiny Japanese business card holder. It's not even a full wallet. This works out for me since my current favorite guy pants are skinny jeans, and the pockets are about as big as girl-jeans pockets.

BUT I DO HAVE POCKETS. Yes, this is a thing I long envied of men's clothing. I was forced to carry a purse because none of my clothes even HAD pockets. Sometimes they'd even have fake ones! WTF

Believe it or not, some men's clothes - especially more formal ones - also have fake pockets...

I used a purse for a while when I was trying really hard to be a girl.  I have no idea why women like them.  Now I put everything I need in my pockets.  One of them, my prized possession, the man wallet.  Just a standard black leather tri fold wallet with an area for change.  Sometimes I still need the change pocket because, like in Europe, Canada has a lot of coins since we have the loonie and toonie (though luckily the penny is gone now).  I carry it in my back pocket which I rarely even feel because it's thin enough and I really don't need a lot in it. Got my iPod in my front right pocket and my phone in my front left with room to spare for my hands.  Life is good.

;D ;D

I tried doing the purse thing for a while. That was when I also tried to convince myself that by wearing dresses I could fool myself and others about my gender. That didn't work so well :D

Ha, I'm loving this thread.

I carry everything in a leather tri-fold wallet, including change. The reason the change hasn't destroyed it yet is because I keep it to a minimum, a dollar or so's worth. Any more and I chuck the extra out into a jar or start paying stuff to the exact amount.

It always rides in my shirt pocket, which is easier on the back when you're sitting and less likely to lose it.

I use to have two wallets. My beaten up everyday wallet that I could fit everything in and even had a large zipper section for coins ($2, $1, $0.50, $0.20, $0.10, $0.05). Plus a leather wallet that was personalized for me as a birthday present. This one I used if I was going out and wanted to look smart.

That's why on the rare occasions I was forced to wear formal clothes I wanted the matching jacket. Wallet would go inside the breast pocket right with the hip flask

I carry a small leather tri-fold in my back pocket. I don't have that much stuff I guess. I've always carried a male wallet and never had a purse. But I do have a messenger bag I carry sometimes, for a book, my e-vape, a journal, sunglasses, etc.

I am secretly obsessed with people's everyday carry habits. This thread is awesome.

I have a men's bi-fold wallet with an ID flap. I think it was somewhere around $15 at a wholesale club. In it I have: my driver's license and change of address card, my bank check card, my work expenses debit card, an emergency credit card, insurance card, fuel rewards card, AAA card, and 3 store savings cards. I don't really carry cash, and I dump any receipts I get at the end of the day. I have more store cards, but I go to those places so infrequently that they just aren't worth carrying.

I've always used a men's wallet. I think a relative bought me a purse once as a gift and I never saw a use for it.

I've never been anywhere in Europe. Is carrying cash a necessity? It sounds like a pain with all the coins.

I'm sure you've gotten the advice you need seeing as this is 2 pages, but I kinda was the same way. I had a checkbook/wallet thing that's comment for females/feminine people to carry around. I liked it because it held my stuff and checkbook (I'd just recently gotten an account), but I loved the easy access of a male wallet (though I'm always paranoid about it slipping out my back pocket). With that said, you don't have to get a male wallet if you desire not to. You probably don't even need half the stuff in your wallet (this is applicable for males and females alike). Go through the stuff in there if you do decide to change and throw out/shred what you don't need. There are male wallets with numerous compartments that fit numerous cards so I think you'd find something to fit, though personally, less is more, especially with people stealing wallets and phones left and right. Best of luck.

I've always used just a really flat bi-fold wallet because I don't want to bother carrying a bag around if I don't have to. I actually think I might get something smaller when I replace the current one. I usually have it in my back pocket and I don't notice it at all when I sit, guess I'm just used to it.

It is a pain! It differs from country to country, but Germany seems really backwards wrt cards. So carrying cash is strongly advised here.

A lot of the stuff I carry probably doesn't have to be in my wallet, strictly speaking. But some of the things that do have an inconvenient format - like my driver's license, the papers for my car, my allergy pass... Anyway - I think the days of my fem-wallet are counted :D I'm totally set on a Bellroy wallet now, I think.

Oh I believe it, especially for formal stuff. The killer about women's clothes is that seeing anything resembling a pocket would instantly make me go, "Hey! I actually have Pockets!! Yay!! WAIT. Wait. Nope. Fake pocket."

This thread made me realize my card holder has flowers on it. I am now going to be on the lookout for a fancy new man-wallet. Maybe stick one on my winter wishlist.

I got a front pocket wallet. I have sciatica and didn't want to tempt fate. I carry my keys on a fob and have a little magnetic thing for my readers as for my age they seem necessary. Sometimes I carry a small change purse for coins. One of those clam shell things. That's it. I had a fanny pack when I lived as a female. I don't miss it.

BTW, I have a smart wallet, but notice REI and so on sells similar very flat wallets. They aren't quality, made of nylon or something but are VERY flat. They makes some esp for the front pocket, which is rounded on the bottom.

Totally off topic, but I wish I'd had a smart wallet. The kind that refused to open when I wanted to make stupid purchases. *blushes*

It really does depend on the area.  In the English countryside the thought of paying by card for anything short of maybe £20 was bizarre to me, the weekly shop would be brought in cash often, and then I moved away into towns and there was no minimum fee, no weird looks when putting a few pound on a card, almost no need to carry coins.  I still carry a few just because I know I'd lose them if I didn't, and they can be handy at times for vending machines and I've always got a pound coin saved to release the shopping trolley at the supermarket every week.
