Everything is about balance, the body favors homeostasis -- we become attuned to a lifestyle, and interrupting that lifestyle is difficult. When we begin to attempt to eat less, our body tells us that it wants to eat the amount that we normally do, you'll feel hungry, because your body wishes to maintain your current body weight. Maintain it's current balance. You have to stick with a different routine, until you adjust.
Most importantly though, without the food you're used to, you'll start to burn less calories, your metabolism will slow rather than burn more fat. So you have to eat small amounts regularly, like a couple hundred calories every 2-3 hours or so.
Also sitting for over an hour can reduce your metabolism by upwards of ninety percent, but if you do a cartio activity for only two minutes every hour, it will result in an after burn that will keep your metabolism up.
You should also eat something just before going to bed, to help keep your metabolism up while you spend hours without eating anything, sleeping.
