Does anybody know the route you have to take to get on hormones in the uk, i spoke to my doctor about my feelings of gender dsyphoria (at that point as a mtf as i had no idea about androgyny) and it really felt like she didnt care and just wanted to get rid of me. She gave me no help at all really, i would like to get hrt to take of the rough male edges (in a manner of speaking) and also some small breasts would fit me quite well i think. Is androgyny recognised by the medical community?

If you're going the NHS route you need to get your GP to refer you to a Gender Identity Clinic, or referred to a therapist who can then refer you to a GIC (some areas work a bit differently though).  It's very unlikely you'd find a GP who'd prescribe hormones without a therapists letter. 

If you're going private there are a few people you could see with or without a referral from your GP.  I see Dr Curtis in London who understands that non-binary people exist and will try to help you with anything you need (providing it's medically safe and he doesn't think you're bonkers  )

I would love to have some HRT. I can easily aquire the hormones for cheap and little hassle. However, those people who know I am androgyne worry about the dangers of doing that without first undergoing some endocrinologic testing. My fear, besides the overwhelming fear I have of doctors, injections, and hospitals, is that they would send me to a gender therapist who will just call me a fetishist. Not to mention that I hate shrinks as well.

So, it looks like its not going to happen.

as a male bodied andro i keep feeling like i would like to be on hrt and did try a low dose of it for a couple of weeks, though stoped as its a  very silly thing to do without proper tests. what i did find though was that i felt a 100 times better more myself a lot for centred and calm. a lot happyer too. i was not really after physical changes more mental ones and id be happy if there was a way of achiving this without all the health risks involved. anyway i keep having periods where i really do want to do this but dont know how to go about seeing my gp and what to say who would probably think im ts. but i guess i will not know until i try. there are other times where i think i can not be bothered with all this as well.

Well when you mean masculine and feminine as biological concepts are you referring to the differences between 'sexes'?  It's my own opinion that the only true reason those differences exist are for procreating purposes,  nothing more.  ( in the physical difference sense )  I just don't think you can refer to masculine or feminine in such a manner. The better part of society i think only uses those terms to describe actions and that's a flawed concept in and of itself.

Are you aware that researchers have found distinct gender differences in the behavior of babies?

The researchers were strongly discouraged from publishing their findings because it wasn't PC.

I'm currently in a phase where I'm thinking about hrt again. But it just makes me confused and upset.

Anyone here on the mones to try and get your body in-line? Hows it working out?

I've thought about it. I don't particularly dislike my male body but I do feel like it does not match what I feel it should be more like. Was it easy getting recognition and appropriate treatment?

I'm not about to start as I want to have more children. Also I am unsure about whether the risks outweigh the benefits for me. I do suffer from feelings of dysphoria but it seems to be manageable and is becoming more so as I alter my presentation and learn more about myself. But it would be interesting to hear from anyone that is on HRT.

Update: There is no recognition that I can find. If this last try fails, I will be going at it on my own. Yes, I understand the risks, yes, I understand how the processes work, yes, I will be closely monitoring myself and keeping a journal. I won't be held back by what or what not the medical community thinks of me.

Where are you getting the info that you would need to do it on your own?

A. Advocating for or against a specific medication or combinations of medications for personal gain is strictly prohibited.
B. Discussing the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription, and self medication without a doctors care is prohibited.

MichelleT, Kaimialana shouldn't answer that question. Nor should anyone advocate self medication.

I think Michelle T is concerned that if Kaimialana is convinced of self administering that they at least have a reputable source of information. Bit of a delema that there is no way to check this. Just have to trust.

Just take care Kamialana. I think your fear is not doing you any justice. A good gender Therapist is not going to call you a fetishist. Also I would suggest you see a therapist about your fear of doctors, injections etc, get some hypnosis or something. Doing this could save your life.

Thank you Ken/Kendra for pointing that out. I'm not interested in breaking the rules or getting someone else to do so.

I just asked to increase my knowledge on the subject. Although I would like the benefits of hrt, I'm not interested in taking drugs whether they are prescribed or not.

I'm not advocating anything. I know self medication isn't safe. Its necessary that people see out an endocrinologist and gender therapist to get you help, for your safety.

I don't feel as if I have any other choice. Its my personal decision, one that I have made at great length, and I won't talk anymore of it, and I won't answer anyones questions. Its not a good decision, for any person. I'm done.

edit: one last thing. if there is anything in this thread that violates the rules, anything that I have said, please remove it. I want no trouble for anyone because of my personal problems.
