Arkansas governor won't sign current religious freedom bill

Washington (CNN)—Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says he does not plan to sign the religious freedom bill that sits on his desk right now, instead asking state lawmakers to make changes so the bill mirrors federal law.

The first-term Republican governor said he wants his state "to be known as a state that does not discriminate but understands tolerance."

Op Comments:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I found it mind blowing that they would try to pass this bill right after the bill in Indiana. My home state is miles behind the times already but at least they seem to be stopping and listening to the people for once! Even the Governor's own son signed a petition asking his father to veto the bill. Hillary Clinton and the CEO of Walmart also stepped up to voice that they think this bill should be vetoed.

*Crosses fingers*

This is amazing. Hutchinson is about as conservative as they come. Shows what a big impact all the activism in Indiana is having.

It's all about the money and boycots of Indiana are threatening to cost the state hundreds of millions. Hit them where it hurts, right in the pocketbook.

Bills don't just show up on the govrs desk...it takes a bit of time to get there.

Until two weeks ago, they probably thought such a bill would be met with great gladness by the (alleged) "moral majority" (tm) ...but Indiana's experience is scaring the "first-term" republican.

IMHO
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Watching Mike Pence's governership (and presidential aspirations) implode probably helped quite a bit.

Thankfully he came to his senses, the last I heard he had planned to sign the bill.

I'm glad to see Walmart taking the stance they are. Though I would have excepted no less considering they have been leading the way in LGBT policy within Arkansas based companies.

Does Hutchinson just not want to commit career suicide like Mike Pence?  I mean, he's also in desperate need of a rectocranial extraction but if this wave of nonsense can get ENDA some more traction, all the better.
