Hi, I am a 17-year old pre-T FTM. I experience pretty bad cramps during "man week" (that time of the month). Recently I did some online research and found out that the cause of it is probably because of an excessive production of prostaglandin in my body. This excess production causes more powerful and stronger contractions in those organs, causing extreme pain. I have not gone to a gyno because it makes me extremely uncomfortable and would not want to get a pelvic exam, and so I am not sure if I have developed endometriosis or it is just an inborn hormone problem, without other accompanying conditions. My question is, would this problem affect my chances of getting testosterone? Would the doctors request me to treat this hormone imbalance before they prescribe me T?

Thanks a lot for reading and I hope there would be answers!

Only a doctor is going to be able to give you a solid answer here, friend. I don't put a lot of stock in online medical research and diagnosis. Bad cramping could be caused by a lot of things. And cramping is different for everyone, so bad may be your normal.

I go to a normal doctor to get prescribed T. If there are general practitioners in your area that you know will prescribe, my recommendation would be to go see one of them and explain the situation. It helps if they are versed in trans issues. My doctor understands my aversion to pelvic exams and sees no point in putting me through one as I don't have a family history that labels me as high risk, and I'm not sexually active with men. So if they understand your feelings and your lifestyle doesn't label you as at risk, I wouldn't worry about it.

You may need to get some blood tests done though to rule out a hormone imbalance. They do blood tests when starting T anyway, so maybe you can see if they'll be able to use the results to diagnose your problem and as your starting lab work for T.

I agree with ftmax you should see a dr, especially one with experience with trans patients. Your symptoms could be many things only dr doing a few test can determine what is best for you.  I know you don't want to have a pelvic exam and if the dr is trans knowledgeable he/she will only recommend one if it is absolutely necessary.
