I got a text from one of my uncles a short while ago to tell me that my father passed away last night. He had a short battle with cancer and died at home aged 56.

I was due to go and see him again tomorrow with my sister, so not sure what happens next.

I've had problems with the way I'm dealing with his passing. I almost cried when I last saw him on Friday of the week just gone, but it didn't want to know. Then when I got the text message from my uncle (my dad's brother) telling me that my dad had passed away, I more or less felt nothing, even though I really loved him as a son. I've been feeling sad but empty for the last week or so. I can't quite figure it out and it's starting to annoy me because I know the saddness and grief is there, but it just isn't coming out. Whenever my sister, my uncle or my dad's friend asked me how I felt, I could only manage to say I was sad when deep down inside I feel so much more.

Chris, we all grieve on a different schedule in different ways. I didn't cry much when my mother died. I'm dealing with guilt over "not feeling bad enough" 

Don't do that to yourself. You knew his health was failing, under these circumstances we start letting go. In a sense, we've already said goodbye before they're gone. Your mind and your heart will guide you through your grief, it will come naturally and you may experience grief differently some other time. The important thing is, whatever you're feeling is OK. It's your life, your loss, and you get through it your way. Always here if you want to talk.
