What a morning, already. So I met with my doctor who had prescribed hormones for me for the past 6 months. The meeting with her today was different than our first. Im to get a reup on hormones today as my prescription ends this month. So, she called me back to the exam room and told me before she started, " I just wanted to meet with you before we get started, I felt so bad prescribing you hormones last time you came in. It goes against my beliefs and if you are here for that today, unfortunately im unable to prescribe them any longer. If you need other things, I can still help with those, but not hormonea." Then I replied, " I never have been told that before... you didnt give me a notice..." she said that she didnt know I was coming in today and that to see if my main doctor in atlanta would work with me. This is a 4 hour drive away! . Luckily, my srs is next month and I wont need to be so fast getting on hormones or starting back , however it just breaks my heart that transpeople are so misunderstood.

That is such crap! I wonder if there are other medical conditions it's "against her beliefs" to treat. If so, I bet they're all LGBTQ related.

I'm sorry you had to experience this honey...

Wow! That is just unreal.

So she expects you to just stop? She could have at least referred you to another doctor.
  •

mmmmm

Well, you will have a chance to find a decent doctor whose brains are not compromised by any nonsense ideas and fairytale beliefs... That's a good thing right?

She didnt even refer me to a doctor. She just basically told me that she wont be able to do the prescribing, goodbye. Really.

If your doctor is in a private practice, you may be out of luck.  There is a provision in the affordable care act, however, that disallows discrimination like this if any part of the organization or activity is receiving any sort of federal assistance.  That's sort of brain-dead easy for things like university clinics and such. It's also true of almost all hospitals and therefore (I presume) applicable to practices located within the hospital legal structure. I don't know if it applies to a doctor simply because they take Medicare patients.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to the doctor anyway, but you might consider filing a complaint with your states human rights commission on the basis that you were denied medically necessary care, as the AMA has officially taken the position that such care is medically necessary.

When I read about such things, I thank God that my doctor is trans.

My NP is trans, my doctor is gay. They don't judge me. They just treat me and send me on my way. Works for me.

Even my kids' pediatrician is gay. He's one of the most caring, compassionate doctors I've seen.

That's ridiculous. File a complaint. That person has no right denying your prescription. Especially if she's not even your main doctor! God, people like that shouldn't become doctors if there's anything medical that's against "their beliefs "

:icon_yikes: I'm so sorry to hear that. Definitely find another doctor. Congrats on the upcoming SRS, but do yourself a favor. She is causing harm by what she is doing though and really should be reported in for it.At least only doctor I had that didn't want part passed me of to someone, but ran the necessary tests anyways, but at least it was upfront and not like your oh oops I'm changing something. Good luck and Hugs

I deff would report her, but its not even worth it. I didnt want to spend anything there anymore. I wonder could I have gotton compensation for this.  Thank you. If I I wasnt having srs I would be so upset.

Good call.  Choose your battles.  Not sure what the gain would be from this one.  I am sorry this happened, too.
Focus on srs and stay diligent on finding another primary doc for care. ;)

I don't get it, your having SRS , but you can't get hormones. Anyway I think your supposed  to stop the hormones a couple of weeks before the surgery. Does her ethics prevent her from giving you hormones once you've had the SRS.

Unprofessional.

I understand that there are people who don't support us.  I may disagree with their beliefs, but I can respect them if they're consistent.  This doctor went along with it last time, but suddenly she has a crisis of conscience?  Yeah...that's really the opposite of integrity.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.

Exactly. Im not sure why she felt that way that will interfere with her job . Smh. It amazed me when she told me... for aome reason I had the feeling she would say that. My intuition can be right kn at times

Unfortunately georgia is a state where there is a lot of hate against the LGBT community and if you managed to ride on the HRT train all the way til SRS in georgia than that is something to be extremely proud of so please hold your head up on that!

If I were you I would really look into leaving that "southern pride" state and move to a blue state such as new york california or connecticut where such discrimination is illegal.

Congrats on the SRS I envy you!!!!

Upon reading other individuals responses yes the affordable care act does protect you
but it doesnt protect you from the doctor prescribing you a wacked out dosage

Your surgeon should prescribe some IIRC. And you should really line up a new doctor.

Ms Grace

That doctor sounds like a transphobic jerk. See what you can do about lining up one who is more supportive.
