Hi. I'm a 19 year old "boy" and I identify as a girl. I've felt this way for years, but I can't start my transition yet because I don't have enough money. Anyway, my main question is, is it too late? I used to be naturally petite and femine-looking, but since I went through puberty really late, my body is still getting more and more masculine. It's horrifying to watch my body become even less like I want it to be. My face even looks less pretty than it used to. I still can't afford transition but I hope to at least see a therapist within a few months. I'm still living as a guy 100% of the time. I also would need to lose some weight to be able to pass, but since I have an eating disorder, that's complicated. Also I was wondering, how common is to have your girlfriend leave you for transitioning/coming out? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to Susan's, elliesofia.

19 is by no means too late, Many of use start much later, like 50's and 60's and have no issues. Starting younger is better but you are very much young enough.

Please review the following links, they can answer a lot of common questions.

I'm glad you found us. There is so much information here and many friendly voices.

A big warm welcome! I started HRT at 47 years old and don't think I look half bad for being a retired Paramedic/Firefighter. You should do just awesome! If your girlfriend has an idea you might be trans and is still with you I would say you have a good chance of keeping her. Myself I lost a 16 year marriage over transition. It just depends on acceptance and tolerance of the individual. I will tell you a lot of losses come with transition, but it is so worth it in the long run. Not living a lie every day frees you of a terrible daily burden. Gender Dysphoria only gets worse every year it goes untreated. See a Therapist and if transition is for you do it.  :)

Only time it's too late to begin, is after yer ded.  19 is a great age to begin.  As Cindy said.. ahhh, to be 19 again, and the courage to know what you really want to do.  You can find therapists now, if you're in a college/university town, look up the Physc Dept, talk to the counselors/professors there, they can likely refer you to one, some colleges/universities have them on staff and are usually free or very low cost for the students..  It's Summer Break now (here in the US) so you may have to wait til the Fall for thst, but in any event, Welcome, and I wish you much luck!

Oh, and Em.. just as I posted my reply, I looked at your Sig line with Elsa's pic.. I was already listening to Demi's "Let It Go"

As Eleanor Keane said "Where there is breath there is hope".

19 is very young, I would look to see if there are any free clinics that do informed consent hormones and can refer you to a free or sliding scale gender therapist if money is your big issue. If you want to stop the further effects of Testosterone on your body that is my advice.

As for your question of relationships, yes, it is quite common for a partner to leave due to transition; However, it is quite common for a partner to leave for any number of reasons also unrelated. There are many who have stayed together and many more who have not.

In any case good luck, and welcome to Susans.

Wow nice comeback Ellie!  A pleasure to read about your success.  Thanks for the update.  We hear from so many people and they seemingly vanish and some of us wonder what's up?
