So in wake of the recent SCOTUS ruling granting marriage equality and the White House flying the rainbow colors, my stepsister-in-law who CLAIMED to be an ally showed her true colors on Facebook today.

"Why can't Obama use the real colors of this country instead of the ones that offend REAL Americans?"

Umm, GFY...  Don't ever come to my house again with your stupid never-ending drama and your little dog too. (Her chihuahua shat on my kitchen floor during last Thanksgiving dinner.)   You lied through your veneers and you thought that maybe we wouldn't notice your hateful post?   I don't ever want to see you again.

Unfortunately, unfriending her is going to cause yet another family rift now that she will no longer be welcome in our presence for the holidays.

Good bye and good riddance.

Yeah, there's an awful lot of people these days who claim to be authorities on who's real and who's not.

Yuck!
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

If you were still talking with her you could point out that the colors that offend REAL Americans are those in the confederate flag, unfortunately those are the same colors as the US flag.

Besides, how can anyone be offended by a rainbow????
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

So sorry to hear that happened, but better to know now than later with family around. At least no more dog as a result. It's her loss and not yours. Big hugs

Wow, Jill...  That's just -- astonishing, and unspeakably rude and ignorant. I'm so sorry.

And, yeah -- it's HER loss. Not to mention that she'll also lose the respect of many, many people who see that post.

You could tell her that at least she's not a REAL member of your family...

You can choose your friends but not your family.I have a beef with my self righteous prick of a nephew who won't go to my sister's(his mother) wedding to her girlfriend.

Big hugs Jill... That really sucks, such an ignorant and hurtful comment (as in post)!

Why is it that families can brutalise each other like that... I have a family member that does those sort of "tricks".

I agree with Kim tho.. on not choosing the family, wish we could eh?

I hope the rest of your family take it for what it is - a case of "foot in mouth" disease! and calm remains

hugs to you

Yikes...sorry to hear that. I assess people on what they do, not what they say, and I've found support and acceptance, but also bigotry, can come from unlikely places. I don't hesitate to cut such people out of my life nowadays.

Uhm wow i don't get it.
Does she think that gay people aren't American? I'm sorry but what a bitch.

how many degrees of separation is a step-sister-in-law. Isn't that like arguing with an Eskimo who lives in Siberia who's only contact with the world is through the internet where they can only get Wi-Fi from a communications satellite that is in non-geo-sync-obit around the earth. She's probably in the closet anyway trying to avoid detection.

What a lovely individual...  ::)

I'm sorry you had to deal with that, Jill. I hope the family fallout won't be too bad.

Hugs Jill. I'm sorry that you have have LGBT-phobic chazzerei in your life. maybe he can become civilized, but people like that cause a lot of pain, especially for transgender people. And if this P.O.S is questioning the the patriotism of LGBT people, remind him that roughly 25% percent of trans people have served in the military compared to roughly 5% of the general population.

I saw the fallout from SCOTUS on gay marriage as fully expected having liven in an area where gay marriage legislation was passed by the state and 2 days later the religious folks got all bent out of shape over a word that in today's 21st century world imparts an unimaginable number of legal rights and protections unheard of, much less even dreamed of, many thousands of years ago when the first caveman hit a woman over the head with a club.

The "True Colors" shocker for me was the Caitlyn Jenner coming out. Full throttle transphobia as well as ignorance from totally unexpected media outlets and personalities. That sent me right into a "WTF am I doing ??? " funk for a good 2 weeks
