So I sent an email to HR yesterday to set up a meeting to talk about coming out at work.   I get to work tonight and have a response, they can meet at 6am today right after my shift.

Soooooooo........  In four hours I'll be sitting down with HR to discuss my transition. ......

Not nervous at all. .....  really. ......  yeahhhhhhhhh, it's going to be a long four hours. .....

Oh man, I hope everything goes well! Seems like a big step forward for you, work is probably a place you spend a lot of time, right
Anyway, good luck! Try to think of what you'll say and answers to any questions they might have, it will help you be less nervous and stuff!

Thank you Juniper and Toni!

And yes Juniper, it is someplace I spend a lot of time.  Much more than I really want to lol!

Just under 2.5 hours to go. .....  Thankfully it's been a fairly busy night so not much time to dwell on it.   That plus I'm just ready for this, I'm sick of hiding. ....

Wow.

That is so fast.

Good luck. Our thoughts are with you.

Now for a random comment.

Just bear in mind that a very few pins and needles poke through, lots and lots support you.

Sorry. I tried to edit that out but would not allow myself. I'm sure it is not helpful but I guess that is were my mind is today.

With warmth and good wishes,

Joanna

Hopefully things went well.

I know since work was the first place I kinda outted myself to being transgender, my boss was all for me being able to change my name and everything. But then things went way too fast in a way that corporate simply said no due to my name not being Kate in social security and the likes I was unable to do so. So in a compromising state for my mental and emotional health, I threatened at a minimum if I would use my last name instead and if not then I would have to quit. Assuredly I'm still with the company and everyone so far is working on forgetting my first name.
Which as per a history with my company I am the first of anyone to go by last names.

Thank you Lynne and Joanna!

My meeting was brief but productive and *very* positive!

Of course, when I'm trying to start making my way to HR everyone wanted to meet with me regarding weekend plans for our department (I'm in management and this is my weekend to work).......  Which never happens, but today it did.....  Go figure right?   ::)

I finally get everything sorted out and head to meet the HR rep and we went to his office and told him about my situation and my intentions to unify my life into one......  Finally....

He was very supportive and wanted to make sure that the work portion of my transition is handled the right way.  He asked my permission to reach out to other members of HR within our company to ensure that they are doing everything they can to support me, which I gave.

He said he would contact me again next week after consulting his peers to discuss further how we want to handle everything and begin planning.  So, for right now everything is really REALLY good!  :D

Wow, that's quite a compromise.  Do you plan to change your name legally so you can go back to using a full name?

We did discuss my name change this morning and I said that my thinking was that after we decide on a rough timeline I will file for my name change and we can adjust as necessary to make the two events coincide.

Hopefully the court system won't be too far off from what we come up with but after today I'm sure we'll be able to work it out to be as smooth as possible.

I do eventually want to officially change my name. Just I cannot do that at this time. Military and their ways are preventing me to do so at this time. Though there was the slight change that it is harder for them to kick me out right now, as it would need to go to official top level DoD civilians to accept a kick out of the military. Despite you know having full well use of last names instead of first  names, it would still be dodgy to  go from "Jason Troy" to "Kate Isabelle" for my name otherwise.

Though for you, I believe even into the aspect of changing your name officially at a date given, you could go by your "preferred" or should it be more natural name before the time it takes to properly get it documented and changed legally, as then there would be a timeline in any regard.

Good to see that things are looking good  In the coming weeks/month I'm planning to do the same at my job because being part-time is starting to get unbearable for me.

I know how you feel, it's gotten pretty unbearable for me too.  I can't stand switching back and forth anymore, other people don't have to do it so why should we?
