Of coarse it's always been hard to breath with my binder on. But then I started feeling short of breath even after i take off my binder. And now my ribs are sore. I have an overall ache and a couple spots that's hurt more. Should I call my doctor?

Maybe I'm just having a panic attack?

I would call them just to be sure they don't think you need further medical attention. Obviously, do NOT bind for awhile. Sounds like you've been binding way too tight or for too long. It shouldn't be hard to breath with your binder on

If you're feeling pain, that's definitely a sign something is wrong. Calling your doctor to make sure you haven't cracked something is a good plan of action. Binding for too long is an issue, and you should normally only bind for 3 hours maximum to be safe. I would hold off on the binding for a while, at least a week, until you start again.

Agree with Aero. Stop binding and see your doctor. Have them check to see if you've bruised or broken something.

As others have said, it should not be hard to breathe with your binder on (under normal circumstances). If you've always found it harder to breathe whilst binding, it's likely that you are either wearing the wrong size or are otherwise binding too tightly.

Binding too tightly (and for too long) can lead to quite a variety of medical problems, including bruised/broken ribs; back problems; lung problems and chest infections. This is because a) it's actually surprisingly easy to damage a rib; and b) your lungs aren't able to fill & empty properly.

You posted this yesterday so there's a chance that your symptoms have eased. But if not, I strongly recommend you see your doctor as soon as possible.

I went to the doctors yesterday and she told me I most likely have inflamed ribs. I have an opointment in a few days with my other doctor who specializes in trans related health care so I'll see what she says. I'll get a new binder soon.

Well done; glad to hear you're taking care of yourself.

I daresay she told you to stop binding until this heals. This sucks, but your health is obviously extremely important so it's in your best interests to stop binding until you're fully recovered. Then of course you'll need to measure yourself very carefully for your next binder & make sure it's a larger size than the current one.

You might also want to look into opportunities to cut down on the length of time for which you're binding. I always removed mine as soon as I got home from work each day, and I would only bind on weekends for brief periods if I was going out somewhere.
