I had told my parents that I want to transitioning MTF then we went a psychiatrist he asked for my problem and I said " I am actually a girl." He said that I am a boy and I said I am a girl inside.. after a long conversation I thought he figure out that I am transgender,  he prescribed me 2 drug that are lustral and risperdol( for Schizophrenia) after I came home I figure out that he prescribed me that drug. I want to start transition as soon as possible without that bullsh*t . I dont want to waste my time and I cant convice my parents to go another doctor so probably he told my parents that I may be schizophrenics , If he did then my parents never ever let me transition ...  I am not really.

Well a psychiatrist is not necessarily equipped to deal much with transgender issues...
imo its like doctors with an additional degree in psychology... they sometimes are more prone to prescribe tablets, instead of talking about the problem...

well you might simply talk about how you see it and what you want...
that you are transgender, and want your body to match your feelings inside and that its the standard procedure, for example written in the wpath standards...

you might say it was a misunderstanding...
here is a brochure:
http://www.gires.org.uk/assets/DOH-Assets/pdf/doh-transgender-experiences.pdf

Don't be sad... things like this happen.
Just keep going.
I'd simply make clear it was a misunderstanding...

and you might ask for a referral to a gender therapist... its possible they know they are not well equipped to deal with transgender people...

*hugs*

We are about 1 in 600 in the population so the odds are he has treated many schizophrenics and no transsexuals. You will have to tell him you think you are a transsexual and may need to bring some printed information about diagnosing and treating transsexual. On the other hand, the medication he gave you could be a real problem. While it helps schizophrenics, it isn't very good for people who aren't schizophrenic and I hope you aren't force to take it.

Above all, transsexualism is the about the only condition that is self diagnosed. For the most part, there isn't a simple way for the doctor to know what you feel deep down so you need to make it very clear you have felt this way for a long time and you understand what it is.

I am an X Psychiatric nurse and let me just say in my experience I don't see how the Dr could have come up with any kind of Diagnosis in one session unless he had a whole heap of other information. Depending on how old he is may give you a clue as to when he learned his trade and how up to date his skills are. You are in a tough place and need to see a therapist who can listen and help.  There is a huge difference between being Psychotic and having Gender Dysphoria.

Why did he say he was prescribing the Antipsychotic? What did your parents tell him...that could be why you have the pills you do. Have you had any other weird symptoms you can't account for?

Hi!

You're right in that Risperdal is an antipsychotic drug. It sounds a bit radical to prescribe that to you out of the blue, since it is used for bipolar disorder.

But Lustral is about right IMO, at least before you start HRT, since it is an SSRI medicine, good for anxiety and depression. I currently take an SSRI drug similar to that one, in its generic form, and it has done wonders for me regarding anxiety and depression.

I went to a psychiatrist as well about three years ago, days after I told my parents I am transgender. But at that time I had already started HRT and had orchi and t-shave without telling them.

The psychiatrist wrongly prescribed me antpsychotics as well, but it was because I told him I was feeling suicidal and I couldn't sleep at night at all.

I think you should go to a psychiatrist specialized in gender identity disorders. You probably saw a general psychiatrist just as I did. I still go to that one, for prescriptions for controlled drugs such as diazepam, which I need when I go out somewhere where I know I will be stressed out by people (I have people phobia).

Of course I am not a medical professional by any means, but I wanted to share because I was prescribed similar stuff the first time I went to the psychiatrist, and I was already three years into HRT and had already altered my body surgically, to never be a guy again.

I think the depression/anxiety medicine will do you good but the antipsychotic drug maybe not. Antipsychotics are strong stuff that usually come with some severe side effects. Before starting taking anything I would suggest your folks going to consult a specialized doctor. You can tell them THERE ARE actually people specialized in treating your condition, but I'd suggest that YOU do the research, and find at least three different options of doctors to see, to suggest to your folks, don't let them choose for you, because you might get screwed over again!

Cheers
