Transgender and Multiple Sclerosis. Anyone else?

I was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2004, although a study of my medical records suggests as far back as 1988. Since that diagnosis I have been fairly well controlled on the medications I take. Earlier this year I began my transition from Male to Female. One of the things that I have noticed is that the complications related to the M.S. seem to have lessened to a noticeable degree. I was first of all wondering if anyone else here happened to have M.S. Secondly I was curious if anyone had noticed any change in M.S. that they were able to relate with being transgender or transitioning. Any and all information would be appreciated. Hi Joanie,

We have several members with MS, I hope they can reach out to you with specifics of their experiences.

High dose steroids are immunosuppressive so some relief from the effects of MS may occur. Of course I certainly hope so for you.

Just be very aware of any changes in your condition and any flares and report them to your medical team ASAP.

BTW the neurology group I work with (loosely) has had some success with treating MS with Rituximab, and I am aware of several new immunotherapies coming onto clinical trials.

If and when you need them I hope they are available to you and please ask your medical team for access to medical trials if your condition worsens.
It is a horrible condition and I wish you every success in dealing with it.
