I find it frustrating almost to no end that we continue to be governed essentially by anecdotes and not by facts. Someone's irrational fear about what MTF transgendered girls might do, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary resonates and drives policy, while real risks and outrageous obstacles faced by those same girls are ignored and the true victims ridiculed.
I'm so grateful for those illuminated communities where people are able to dress in safe spaces, and non-gendered bathrooms are starting to take root. It does give me some hope, although it may ultimately require virtual migrations from inhospitable environments to more welcoming ones.
