Hi everyone,

I am 24 years old and I live in the Netherlands. It will take months before I will start my project with the official specialized 'gender-team' in Amsterdam. In the mean time, I hope that some of my concerns and questions might be cleared up on this forum.

I have two questions that maybe some of you know the answer to:

1. What happens if you take testosteron blockers without estrogen, solely for the purpose of muscle atrophy?
2. How powerful are the effects of HRT in muscle atrophy? / What are your personal experiences with this?
3. What are ways of losing muscle, besides diet and exercise?

Thank you :)

I can only speak to the first. Taking blockers without E is generally not recommended. The sex hormones are important for your body's normal function, and without E or T in your system you run an increased risk of osteoporosis.

Its true and its not...

there are people like teens who are given blockers for some time...
Its also a matter of how much is suppressed... Its possible t is not 100% supressed...
and there were castrates in other times who lived a healthy life up to high age...

A lot of it depends on how strong the t blocker is and how long you are on it, but regardless you are highly likely to experience sweating and fatigue. You may or may not lose much muscle in the process anyway since a lot of women on this site who are on anti androgens and estrogen still report trouble eliminating muscle bulk - a lot of that depends on how dense your muscle mass is to begin with. The other issue over the long term is loss of bone density which can lead to osteoporosis. If you are thinking of self medicating I would strongly recommend against it. Hormones and t blockers are dangerous to take without medical supervision.

Thanks. No, I would never. But wow, your answer about muscle mass atrophy scares me a bit... My bicep muscles are like really, really, really dense. I have had them since I was 18, prior to when I started working out. They are bigger now because of it, though. But I guess they are very stubborn, since they won't go away even when I stopped working out for almost a year. I guess it's just a matter of waiting it off.
